Dial 1 before number?

My son just tried to call my number from his cell phone and it wouldn't connect. He got a voice saying insufficient funds???? I told him to try dialing 1 before my number and the call came through. Man, this doesn't seem right. I sure hope that people are not going to have to dial 1 before my number because I know none will do that.....btw we are both in the 778 area code. Does this mean this was a long distance call for him? It's never been long distance for him with my old number. Confused!

Hi andyha,
Can you please send me a private message with your number and your son's cell number? I can check the logs and see what happened here - it's definitely not correct that he should have to dial a leading 1.
