Hey guys!
I just discovered this service and I have some questions.

1) How can I order the service without a credit card? (I don't like credit cards :) )
2) I am with Teksavvy cable and my speed is 3Mb/256k. Can VOIP work well with an upload speed like mine?
3) What hardware does Freephoneline provide? Is there some sort of adapter like the magic jack where I can plug it to a computer and plug my phone into it?
4) Once I pay for my config file, do I have to pay for a config file again if I am porting my number?
5) Can I buy my own ATA device? what specs should I look for? If I find a ATA that works with Skype, will it wotk with FPL?
6) Finally why is this service free? whats the catch? :D

Which is here: http://www.freephoneline.ca/faq

But quickly:
1) You can get the softphone version for free without a credit card. To move on to ATA device, you'll need to pay, and that requires credit card.
2) Yes, but a router with Quality of Service prioritization is recommended.
3) For 50$ they sell an ATA, which is like MajicJack but better because it doesn't need a computer at all. It plugs in your router directly.
4) No, the 50$ config file is one-time. Moving a phone number is 25$, and also one-time.
5) Any ATA that is capable of handling SIP accounts, and codecs G711 and G729 will work. Skype is completely different.
6) It gets the company known and they sell other things (long distance, DSL, etc), as well as optional packages (SIP, phone porting) which brings revenue. Also, running a VoIP phone system is surprisingly cheap.

Thanks for the reply laurent.

What ATA models/brands are available through FPL?

Currently the Grandstream HT286 is the only ATA we offer yes. However, we do offer an all-in-one device that comes with our Superspeed DSL (Thomson 784) which includes four ethernet ports, two SIP ports, DSL modem, PSTN pass through, and a USB for media storage (LAN or DynDNS) :)

Then, in answer to my query,
Through the net I loved so dearly,
Came its answer, dark and dreary:
Quoth the server, 404.

The trouble with that Thomson router is I can't find the DECT dongle for the life of me. It's not a necessary thing, but I thought it would be fun to play with.
