SIP Wireless Wi-Fi Phone Configuration: help please?

Post by Timmi »

I purchased an unlocked UTStarcom F1000. It is a Wi-Fi only phone.

Using the config file, I entered all the info I could. But there are still some settings I have questions about.
If an expert would kindly take a look at this, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Where there are "x" or "*", the actual data is there, but for safety concerns, I have obliterated those, for concerns of potential hackers looking at such forums.
SIP register Sever Mode= DNS (IP / DNS)
SIP register Server Domain Name= voip.freephoneline.ca
SIP register Server IP addres= 0.0.0.0 (blank not accepted)
SIP register Server Port= xxxx
SIP outbound Proxy mode= DNS (choose IP / DNS)
SIP outbound Server domain name= voip.freephoneline.ca
SIP outbound Server IP addres= 0.0.0.0 (blank not accepted)
SIP outbound Server Port= xxxx
SIP User Name= 1514446xxxx (FPL phone number with a 1 in front, correct?)
SIP Authentication string= 1514446xxxx
SIP password= (**********)

Other information - there are other places in the phone where there are settings as well, for example:
There is also a menu item called Primary and Secondary DNS, and it forces an entry in there (I cannot just leave it blank, so I put in 0.0.0.0). I am not sure what to do with that... should I enter my ISP's primary and secondary DNS? (ISP tech support gave that to me, but I wonder what happens when I roam...).

Phone connects to the AP (access point, router), and the signal strength indicator confirms that. But when I go to dial out, it says "No service, try another AP". But it is definitely connected because I can access the phone through web browser to configure it.

My ISP is sympatico/bell. I went into the router and enabled application support for the voip services listed there, just in case it was blocking something. It is a 2Wire 2701 router.

Thanks in advance.

I'm not meaning to spam or anything, but if we can get this working, I can refer to you the link of the phone I bought on ebay - it's a canadian seller and has a whole bunch of these at 50 bucks, a pretty good deal for a portable wifi-only sip phone.

I have that phone configured to freephoneline.ca, and it works fine. I remember there was some confusing line I had to change to make it work, though I cannot remember what it was. I am no where near the phone, gone for the holidays, but when I get back, I will post it.

I believe there was a seller that had the freephoneline.ca settings on his ebay auction, maybe it was the same guy that sold you the phone.

This one?

Looks like it might be just the ports you need to change (6060 to 5060)

Jake: yeah, that is it. It was the SIP authorization string that confused me, it was as simple as adding my freephoneline phone number.

Yes that is the phone and the seller. You can see in my original posting that I entered the number there, as well as my other settings. I followed the instructions on his auction page, but there are additional items to configure in the phone that this does not answer.

EDIT: I'd like to say that this seller has gone out of his way to try and help me. He has never complained, never counted his hours. I think this is just a little too technical for me, and I am throwing in the towel. He has accepted to take the phone back, without penalty. So if any of you are more confident and more at ease than I am with these things, go ahead and give it a try... at 50 bucks, it's the same price as an ATA and you get a portable handset.

I returned the phone for a refund. This was not working out for me. Feel free to keep the thread alive if there may be any info for others with that model. I however am no longer on this thread since I no longer have that phone in my hands to refer to and participate.
