Recording phone calls ...

Post by michellecleroux »

Hi, again.

Is there a Freephoneline.ca feature that allows for recording the phone calls? If not, then is there another way to do it from a desk top computer while making such calls?

Allowing, of course, for telling the other party that it's being recorded.

Thanks for any help, in advance.

Neither FPL nor Fongo has this feature.

As far as I know, Canada has the rule of one party consent. So as long as you tell yourself the call is being recorded you don't have to inform the other person, although it's obviously nice to.
What you can't do is record a call when neither party knows they are being recorded, say if you tap a phone line.

I've never really looked into what could be used to record a call, but if you have the FPL unlock key then you could use the Bria Solo softphone (paid version) that allows recording.

If you own a Freephoneline VoIP unlock key, you can record calls to a PC desktop using an Obihai ATA, Obihai IP Phone, or, as Jake mentioned, with a SIP app that offers a recording feature.

from viewtopic.php?f=15&t=18805 (the PDF file is found at the bottom of the first post) on page 39
For Obihai ATA or Obihai IP Phone users,
"Did you know you can also record an active call?

1. Dial ***1
2. Enter the IP address you hear into a web browser
3. Navigate to Status-->Call status
4. A call needs to be in progress in order to record. Click "call status" when a call is in progress.
5. Click the record button.
6. A window will eventually popup. Click save.
7. An .au audio file will start downloading onto your computer."

Acrobits Groundwire on a smartphone can record calls as well, and the recordings can be transferred to PC: https://faq.acrobits.net/extract-the-call-recordings.
