I think the free side of FPL runs to the fact that the staff have to work for free also 
I also heard they have to give all their free time to FPL also, so no days off

That's why there's the community to pick up on things that either Kris or Steve can't do. Like giving feedback on how to configure FPL with Asterisk/FreeSwitch etc...
