[Resolved] Yearly cost for home phone

Post by eqqysajrzx »

Hey all,

Looking for another customer to confirm my thought process here.

I signed up a year ago for home phone. Paid the one time fee for a home phone adapter and with shipping, deposit, Essential Services Fee - Yearly,etc , etc, the total before tax is 111.25. After ON tax it's $125.71. I paid this and only this amount, confirmed by looking at my credit card, and had a year of service.

Now it's time to pay for another year. I believe all I should be charged is Essential Services Fee - Yearly @ $59.40. IE:
  • Fongo Home Phone Adapter $0.00
Essential Services Fee - Yearly $59.40
Unlimited Canada + US Long Distance  $0.00
    Phone Number $0.00
    Unlimited Free Calling $0.00
Voicemail & Voicemail To Email $0.00
    Caller ID  $0.00
Call Forwarding & Text To Email $0.00
    Call Waiting $0.00
Is this correct? If I wanted to go to monthly I'd be charged $5.95/mo when paid monthly. That's it, that's all I need to pay, right?

That's the problem, I did and I've been told something different..... They tried to bill my CC for the yearly but because I'm laid off and in credit card debit it failed. I asked to be moved to monthly and support has told me I now need to pay the yearly fee AND monthly. There's quite a long back and forth but here is what I've been told in Ticket #[removed]

Hi zzzzzzz,
Thank you for your continued messages. I understand you strongly disagree with how this has been explained, and I want to address this clearly and directly.
1) Direct answer to your question
If you choose to pay one full year upfront including all required fees, the total cost is:

$59.40 + tax — Fongo Home Phone annual service
$59.40 + tax — Essential Services Fee (mandatory regulatory fee, billed annually)

Total before tax: $118.80
This would cover your service and regulatory fees for one full year.
2) About the Essential Services Fee
The Essential Services Fee is not a monthly service charge. It is a regulatory fee that is billed once per year, even if your service plan is monthly.
The invoice example you linked is a sample invoice only and does not override the actual billing rules applied to live customer accounts. Your account has been reviewed multiple times, and the invoice you see is correctly generated for your service configuration.
3) What can and cannot be done
To be fully transparent:

We cannot convert the Essential Services Fee into a monthly charge
We cannot generate a “$5.95-only” invoice without the annual Essential Services Fee
Your account is already on monthly service billing for the $5.95 plan

Yeah, I wanted a customer view on it, I'm glad I'm right. Just annoying support is wrong in this case.

"Can I switch back to monthly after switching to annual?

Yes, however, you cannot switch back to monthly in the middle of the year you paid for. If you want to switch back to monthly from annual billing, we will switch your annual package to the monthly package, so your monthly payments will begin on your next billing date, which will be 1 year from your annual payment."

The explanation I received was the monthly billing request came after your yearly invoice was generated for 2026: "when changing to monthly it only occurs after the current period [or invoice] expires." Consequently, there may have been some confusion involving 2027.

Anyway, I have reason to believe this situation will be worked out in your ticket.

I called that out in one of my emails to support.... What months would I be paying for in addition to the year. It was clear support was saying I'd be paying twice. That's why I asked them again, in a different way, how much it was per year to triple check they're trying to charge me twice.
If you choose to pay one full year upfront including all required fees, the total cost is:

$59.40 + tax — Fongo Home Phone annual service
$59.40 + tax — Essential Services Fee (mandatory regulatory fee, billed annually)

Total before tax: $118.80
In any case, Who ever looked at my ticket got rid of the yearly invoice I had not paid yet and generated a monthly one for me.

The person who responded to me, after figuring out what was going on, stated the billing would be adjusted for you. Thanks for updating.

I'll delete your ticket number from this thread, just in case there's some potential privacy issue I'm not aware of.
