ATA and SIP with 2 lines

Post by sharky »

Tried lots of searching put couldn't find the answer. I currently use Freephoneline ATA service for my home phone - and love it. I would like to setup an office line as a SoftPhone. I have a registered 2nd line already setup, but want to make sure I have the port forwarding setup properly in my home router.

Currently I don't forward anything for the ATA. (should I be forwarding 5060 to my Grandsteam ATA box I got from FPL?)

I setup the SIP phone with forwarding UDP 5061, 13000 and 13001.

I seems to work, but I want to make sure I get it right.

Thanks
laurent

In your ATA, you should have a setup where you can change the listening SIP port, which is normally 5060. Change it to 5062. You can then, from your router, forward 5062-5063 to your ATA, and leave 5060-5061 to your softphone, along with 13000-13001.

I'm sure Steve will be along in a bit to tell you FPL is not for businesses. Is the second line from FPL? or is your office like mine, just a retreat away from everything and nothing really to do with work :D

By "not business", what they mean is that it's business that can be given to Fibernetics. A one-man operation in a home office is in no way a potential client to Fibernetic's powerful VoIP systems... I don't think they'd mind :) *

Laurent is on the money here :)

Home office/retreat/work room versus a business office that's making and receiving many calls on a daily basis are two different things.

Sorry - I was referring to work from home from time to time, I don't have a home based business. Just the opportunity to work from home a few days a month, and don't like tieing up the home line from my wife and kids. Figured SIP would be a good option for a 2nd line.
