Email to Fax Number Support????

Post by leper1983 »

I was wondering if it was possible to use FPL to send faxes via email... I've been getting random fax calls and it sends me a pdf of the file.. so i was curious if FPL supported doing the opposite so i could send an email with a certain format to a fax number

I found a couple sites that allowed you to do it.. haven't exactly tested it out to see if it really worked but would prefer doing it through FPL if it was supported

Our system itself supports faxing, yes. However it is not an officially supported feature by freephoneline.ca; this means any technical support required on this matter will have to be done via this forum through our community.

There was a post that suggested how to increase your chances of sending a fax. Personally I have my All-In-One printer hooked up to my PAP2T and I make the fax as simple as possible and they seem to go through OK. When I need to receive them I give it a couple of goes for the fax machine to try and get it, and if that doesn't work I temporarily send calls to the FPL answer machine and (as you know) I get a PDF sent to me. Most times anyway.

As for your question, if you don't want to go down the local UPS and send it from there, or give an online company a go, and you don't have a fax machine; you could always go old school and put a dial up modem back into your computer, then hook that up to your phone line. There must be loads of free fax programs out there.

I must have loads of modems in a box downstairs. They were one of the first things I would take out of a new machine when I got it. If you don't have one, a car boot sale would probably be quite fruitful.

I will admit I don't send that many faxes (2 or 3 a year). Someone might be able to suggest a better way. It's the "without a fax machine" bit that will stump you, assuming that is, you don't want to pay an online company.

I agree, some sort of fax to email service through FPL would be pretty good, but although FPL's phone service is fairly feature rich, FPL itself is a pretty basic service, which they have to be to stay free (in the main part) I guess.

If you are running an Asterisk PBX, it looks like there could be something you could do in house http://asterfax.sourceforge.net/

Or, if you're willing to take the Asterisk approach, you could install PBX in a Flash with the Incredible PBX add-on. From there you run the AvantFax/HylaFax install and end up with a 4 port fax server. :) I have it, works on any of my 4 trunks including FPL. And I only send/receive 2-3 faxes per year. Did it cause I can.
