Thomson 784 - Message Waiting Indicator & "Private"

Hi,

I 've been a customer for less than a month, by purchasing the $300 full package (high speed + Thomson 784, using dry DSL). Things are working very well, except for two nagging issues. Tech support hasn't been able to help resolve these two issues, so I'm reaching out to see if anyone else has the same issues, with a resolution:

1. The Message Waiting indicator doesn't work. The red light on my phone doesn't indicate that a message is waiting (even after waiting for hours), and the dial tone also sounds "normal", even where there are messages waiting, instead of providing a "pulsing" dial tone.
2. When calling other phones (eg. Bell phones), my name/number on their call display shows up as "Private", instead of showing my name. The settings in the Thomson have been checked by me, and while on the phone with tech support, and seem to be correct to send out my name/number.

Any help would be appreciated.

Good news on the second issue (my phone number/name wasn't showing up in the call display of people I called). Dialling #31 deactivates "Calling Line Identification Restriction" within the Thomson ATA, which prevents the called ID from being displayed on phones that I call. Problem solved. Tech support and I weren't able to find this setting before. It can also be set by browsing into the Thomson unit, and within the Toolbox/Telephony section, selecting Configure, and unchecking "Calling Line Identification Restriction"- both methods are equivalent.

That leaves one last issue: The message waiting indication still isn't working.

If *31 was enabled on your device, I'm guessing that you (or someone else in your household) has experimented with different settings on it (since we don't ship with that setting enabled). It's possible that your MWI may have also been disabled in the same fashion. I'd suggest having our tech support team put a new configuration file on your device - they can do that remotely with you on the phone.

I had the message waiting problem as well with this unit. Got a second one...same problem. I ended up sending it back and getting a seperate modem and ATA, now it works perfectly.

I contacted Freephoneline's technical support about this issue. After doing some testing, they updated some files in my Thomson 784, and MWI now works fine- both the "stuttering dial tone" and the MWI light. They were pleasant and helpful to deal with.
