Unable to call using Phone card

Post by boon »

I've been using phone card to call overseas without any issues by using my current home phone.

When I use FPL to call, I'm getting message "The pin enter is not valid, please re-enter"

Steps
1) calling 416 849 9350
2) select language (which is 1 for English)
3) Enter Pin # (This is a 12 digits)
4) Getting error message

I've switch phone to FPL line (which I could call overseas using the calling card) but still getting PIN error. Could it be cause by the "Dial plan"? Any help appreciated. Thanks.

May I ask what kind of device you have?

Any time you try to enter digits and you get an error message saying they're not valid, it can almost always be chalked up to a DTMF problem on either your devices end or the receiving end (Calling card).

I always have trouble with DTMF. Now I have two phones set up on different ATAs with the DTMF set up differently. So now if I cant get whatever system I am calling with one phone, I try the other.

As Kris mentioned, try a different type of DTMF if you can and see if that helps.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm using Panasonic KX-TG4134C (Dect 6.0). This phone is set to "Tone" for the dial mode.

How can I set the DTMF ? is it on the ATA ? Which section of the ATA which I need to change. Now I`m using PAP2T. Thanks.

Note: I do not have issue using this Panasonic phone to call this calling card when connecting to my existing land line.

It's the ATA that will send the DTMF tones, so have a play in the settings in there.

Log as Admin into your PAP2T and click on "Line 1", assuming that is the line your phone is plugged into. On the left hand side at the bottom you should see this "DTMF Tx Method:" Try the different settings there. (Don't forget to click save after you change the setting)

Usually I flick between "InBand" and "Auto" if I can't get automated systems to work.

Hi Jake,

I've tried on "InBand", "IVT", "INFO" and "Auto". I'm still getting message "Your PIN is invalid. Please enter your PIN". The problem is the automated accepted the first command (which is select language) and did not accept the 12 digits pin. Is there any other setting which I need to look at?

I would suggest you need to try some things and eliminate bits to see where the problem might be.

I don't know of any other settings to play with, but try these things. They might point you in the right direction, or they might leave you at square one.

1. I know you have an ATA, but fire up the softphone and see it that works. This will tell you if the calling card will work with FPL. (I can't see why it wouldn't, but you never know)
2. Try pressing the keys a bit longer than you normally would. It could be that the tones are sent too quickly for it for some reason.
3. Try a different phone instead of your Panasonic. I know you say it works on yur other line, but something might be playing up when you connect it to the ATA.
4. I doubt this will do much, but try a different codec for the call (Log into your ATA as Admin > Line 1 > Left side down bottom "Preferred Codec:") Try G729a or G711u.
5. Make sure your PIN is actually correct. I know this might sound stupid, but I used to work for an alarm company and I have been called out to many "broken" alarm systems where the customer was just not putting in the right code!

Hi Jake,

You are awesome!! Managed to call using the calling card. What I did was, just changed the "Preferred Codec:" to G711u.

Just for record purposes. I did some testing based on your suggestions.
1. Softphone works. Can use Calling card to call. (Codec = G729a or G711u)
2. not working (if codec = G729a)
3. did not try
4. This works!!! use codec G711u
5. Definitely I'm using the correct PIN :)

Glad you got it working!
