Voice mail access - remote numbers

Post by TheHardy »

Okay, so I am smarter than the average user (or at least I think so!). I was able to find, via the site map off the main page, the remote voice mail access numbers ...

http://www.freephoneline.ca/vmAccessNumbers

However, this page is not all that easy to find if you are just looking for it, even by clicking through a bunch of the pages. This was brought to light when someone that I referred to FPL emailed me about remote access numbers. I told them it was listed on the website. They said they could not find it. Well, it was a bit of a slog for me to do so too (other than cheating and using the site map!). A lot of the links seem to not go where they should.

My suggestion to FPL is to have someone outside FPL (perhaps a family member etc) try to navigate their website to look for common things (such as VM access, cities where DID #s are offered, FREE calling cities, client software download etc) and see if they can actually find them without too much hassle!

I think I have made it clear in my other posts too that I believe strongly that the whole website needs a bit of a makeover, top to bottom, to make it more useful.

Yes sometimes it can be quite difficult to find things on our website. A lot of the time, if you just go to the F.A.Q, especially in this case, the Voicemail section does have a link to that exact access number site. You should really think about getting a job here with us :) You definitely are smarter than the average user. Thank you so much for your contribution to our forum.

Edmonton, AB remote number is not listed on the webpage, although doing a thorough search of the forums DID yield one in Kris's post. I PM'd Kris, quoting it back to him as it was from May/2010 stating that he would have the webpage updated (still pending...)

FYI: Edmonton, AB 780-851-4043

As for the other, I wouldn't so much mind being a "bug-basher" or contributor in whatever way I can. PM me if you are serious... I don't think that I really have all the skills for work in a tech sector, as I have been more in transport and the like and am really relatively new to VOIP in general.

new remote numbers in new DID areas

Post by TheHardy »

Just wondering if there are any OTHER new remote voicemail access numbers, perhaps in areas where new DID numbers have been added. Are there any plans for having remote voicemail access numbers in areas that currently DO NOT have DID numbers but DO HAVE local/free calling? IE: Halifax, Winnipeg?? I assume that this would involve an additional cost to FPL/Fibernetics, rather than being provisioned at low/no cost on their own network...

Official word? Lauren? :)

voicemail access numbers

Ack, quoting myself again. I KNOW I have too much time on my hands -- I really need to get another job SOON! ;)

So I pulled up (via www.localcallingguide.com) a list of NPA-NXX's assigned to Fibernetics, and cross-referenced it back against the remote voicemail access number listing available on FPL (outdated, as it does not have Edmonton, AB).

I found the following 'ratecentres' which currently do not have assigned remote voicemail access numbers...

Acton, ON (226-828)
Gananoque, ON (613-815)
Guelph, ON (226-706)
Levack, ON (705-832)
Maple, ON (289-963)
Rockwood, ON (226-838)
Sarnia, ON (226-776)
Pointe-Claire, QC (514-558)

I have omitted Edmonton, as we know it OFFICIALLY has a voicemail number.

I have also spotted an error in the webpage listing the voicemail numbers, Hespeler ON is on there twice, once misspelled, and with two separate numbers:
Hespeler -- 226 566 3001
Hespler -- 226 566 3002

Lastly, and I know this to be true, there is really NO need to have an individual "local" remote access voicemail number in EACH and every NPA-NXX/ratecentre in which FPL offers DID numbers... a lot of the ratecentres are local calls to OTHER ratecentres as they are well within the local calling areas. This is particularly true around the major metropolitan centres of Toronto, Vancouver, K-W, Ottawa, Hamilton etc.

All of the 'current' BC ratecentres (Vancouver, New Westminster, Richmond, North Vancouver, West Vancouver) are all within the same local calling area (Vancouver). FPL could therefore service the 5 ratecentres (6 current NPA-NXX's) with a single remote voicemail access number with absolutely no downside, and therefore free up 4 additional numbers (not that it is really an issue, I think).

I am sure that this is also the case in the other major cities, I am just too lazy at present to do all the lists, as it is really pointless ... lol

Just an observation on my end. Again, I have too much time on my hands! ;)

I have sent this information off to one of our programmers. Hopefully Edmonton will be added to the site and the Hespeler issue will be addressed to. If you find anything else TheHardy, feel free to PM me.
