Softphone failed to load

Post by TechGuy »

I installed Windows 7 64bit on a new disk and dual boot from the Vista 32 bit on the old drive.
I downloaded the latest softphone install program and installed on the Windows 7 64 bit. It fails to start with the following error.
Failed to load Java VM library: C:\Program Files (x86)\java\jre\bin\client\jvm.dll (errno = 5)
- The jvm.dll is present at C:\Program Files (x86)\java\jre\bin\client\jvm.dll
- Is the softphone app a 32 bit or 64 bit program?
--- If it is 64 bit app, it is looking at the wrong place for the 64 bit jvm.dll. It should be loading C:\Program Files\java\jre\bin\client\jvm.dll instead.

Please help.

uninstall and try again

It is a 32bit app, not 64. It seems to be installed in the right place, but sometimes the softphone can be a tad on the buggy side to install.

From what I have learned in the forums and via tech support email (72h turn around! :( ) try these things in the following order:

1) Uninstall the app using regular uninstall method
2) Shut down all else
3) Reinstall and try

4) If that fails, then it is time to call out the heavy guns (Drats)
5) Uninstall using this uninstaller (as recommended by tech support - this does a deep uninstall)
---- http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uni ... nload.html
(note: Tech support also said to uninstall JAVA to fix the problem, but I skipped that step -- your mileage may vary!!!)
6) Reinstall app and try again

7) If that STILL fails, and you DID NOT unistall JAVA (as per above), then uninstall BOTH FPL and JAVA using the above uninstaller
8) Reinstall LATEST version of JAVA (make sure it is!)
9) Reinstall FPL

10) Pray .... if it does not work at this point, I suggest a sledgehammer! ;)

(also: see thread here where I got all this from... http://forum.freephoneline.ca/viewtopic ... all#p15460 )
