NEW ATA user

Post by Pierre »

I receive my ATA box (Grandstream Handy Tone (HT) 286) last week and it seems to work just fine :D . The box is connected to a port in my four port router (D Link DIR655), two of the other ports are used by PC’s in my house, I also have two wireless laptop running from the same router.

I received confirmation by FPL that the LOA for porting my number had been received and the porting process had started.

When I did receive the ATA box, there were instruction with it on changing the “SIP user ID” to complete the porting once I am notified the porting has taken place. I was under the impression that this change was done remotely FPL, is this correct or do I have to change the ATA configuration myself?

Many thanks,
Pierre

This topic will probably get moved once Steve sees it, but to answer your question - yes, you will have to change something.

At the moment your userID is 1(your FPL phone number). Once you port your number in your userID will be 1(your ported phone number).

This is something you will have to change your end otherwise your ATA will not be able to login, they will obviously change it on their end also.

Thanks for your response Jake, this is what I thought and it makes sense. The ATA instructions also say: “Dial *** and enter option 2”. I am assuming that after I dial *** something will come up on one of my computers and I will follow instructions from there. I have four computers running off my router; I’m not sure which computer will come up with the instructions? Maybe I should power off three of them and leave one “ON” and hope this is the one that I will have to use.
Does that make sense to you?
Thanks again,

I don't know the HT286, but those instructions mean to dial *** from a phone plugged into the ATA. I assume this is so you can find out the IP of the ATA. Then from a computer you will browse to the IP of the ATA.

So if the ATA reads back to you 192.168.0.10, you would enter http://192.168.0.10 in your browser. From there you would get the admin panel to configure the ATA.

You can safely do this now if you want to have a poke around, just don't change anything.
