If I shut down the softphone using the "X" it restarts OK by clicking on the icon.
If I minimize it using the "-" it disappears from the system tray and will not restart by clicking the icon but it does start when a call is received.
How can I restart the program to make a call?

I have solved my problem - sort of.
if you tick "minimize to system tray" in menu/settings/other it does the opposite of what you would expect!! It doesn't appear in the system tray and will not restart when you click the icon. You have to leave this box unticked to get it to minimize properly - go figure.
