Caller id name on home phone?

Post by pete_fpl »

I was wondering how I can get the name of the person calling me to display on my home phone. I have used this phone with a lan line which displayed name and number, but with fpl it only shows the number.

This depends a bit on the device you are using and the provider of the calling party. If the calling party passes the name to FPL, FPL will display it. Which device are you using? Have you received a call from another FPL user with no name showing?

To get a name displayed from certain telcos, Freephoneline would have to pay a 3rd party for that service, of which they believe is not worth the extra cost. Other telcos have a set up where they display the name, and Freephoneline passes that name along.

As bridonica mentioned FPL does not offer the look up require to get the full info as it cost money. What you may be able to do depending on the device that you are using is to put the contacts into your phone directory. When an incoming call comes in, the phone itself looks up the name and if it is in the list will display it. This works for my desk phone and my cordless phone. It may or may not be useful to you.

I'm using the Linksys PAP2. I haven't gotten any calls from other fpl users, only regular home phone users (bell, rogers, etc). I've looked around the settings page and can't seem to find a directory area.

As long as I know there's nothing wrong with my phone or service then I'm ok (considering the service is free) - just wanted to make sure :)

For incoming calls, the name display works for me, no problem, works all the time, only calls from a cellular that displays the number only. Make sure the polarity is not reversed in your ATA or your inside wiring if you feed your wiring is from your ATA.

For calls from my FPL, my name is not displayed 9 time on 10, If not call a subscriber FPL.

All 3 are "Forward". What do you mean by the wiring? Inside the actual unit? :?

Your number is forward on your FPL number? For the wiring, I mean the wiring in the house...

Hmm interesting. I got a call directly to the number from security downstairs, and the name id came up. I guess since most of my calls are forwarded from a cell phone it removes the name.

Thanks for the help everyone :)
