Voice mail inop

Post by rdloc »

When I dial *98 to check my voice mail the options come up as "press 1 to listen to messages", "press 3 for personal options", "press star to exit". But when I press any of these options nothing happens; my selection goes completely undetected and the options repeat themselves.
I have the Grandstream HT502 with a Netgear WNDR3700 router.
I have called FPL technical support and they can't figure anything out. They hooked it up to their ATA with my info and apparently it worked perfectly for them, so there is a problem on my end.
If anyone has any ideas, I would appreciate hearing them.
Thanks in advance.

Your suggestion about the remote access numbers brings up another problem which I have discussed with a few different people at FPL. The list shown on the link you provided does not include any cities which are local to me. The closest city listed is London ON, but this is 1 hour away and is not a local call. So your suggestion that "it is another way to access your VM with us" is not a solution until FPL can provide me with a number local to Sarnia Ontario.

You also say "If you are still having issues, please ley us know so that we can further investigate what may be causing this issue." >>>>>>> I am still having issues. I have pretty much given up being to check my voice mail via my phone. I have resigned myself to listening to my messages through the web page link.

Have you tried calling the remote number from your FPL phone? I am not asking you to do this from now on, just asking as it helps give me a little more insight in to what may be causing the issue.

I just now tried calling the London number. It asked me to enter my account number. I took this to mean my phone number. I enter the number in the following format; 1 xxx xxx xxxx. I also entered it a 2nd time without the 1 in front.
My input was not recognized and the message "Please enter your account number" was repeated. The system eventually hung up on me as it was not accepting what I was entering.

I don't mean to step in the way of Mike and what he is trying to do, but this sounds like a DTMF settings issue. I have terrible trouble calling into some systems because of this, so much so I have one phone set up one way and another set up differently, this way if it doesn't work with one phone I just call again with the other.

I would try changing your DTMF profile to something else, and try again. Look on page 16 of this manual (I think it is for your ATA) http://www.telesur.sr/telesurvoip/data/ ... Manual.pdf
It says the setting is on the profile page of the ATA. I don't have that ATA so I don't know.

If they say they tested it before sending it to you, then it should work. But I would try changing those settings all the same. You have nothing to loose :)

Jake,
Thanks a bunch. It worked. I changed the DTMF settings and now it recognizes my selections. I don't have any voice mails right now, but the personal options option works perfectly.
Thanks again! :)

For those who may have this same problem, to get to the DTMF settings, type your ATA IP address in to the search bar and open, go to FXS PORT1, and scroll down about 1/3 of the page to preferred DTMF method:
Preferred DTMF method:
Priority 1: In-audio
Priority 2: RFC2833
Priority 3: SIP INFO
Then update and reboot at the bottom of the page.

I'm glad that fixed it rdloc! I thought I would suggest it as I have had this many times before. You will probably find you have to change it again when calling into another system, but at least you will know where to look when you press 1 and nothing happens.
