problems with the grandstream ht286 from fpl

Post by killerjay »

hey, im having a few issues with my ata that i bought from fpl.
i keep getting complaints from people saying that they can barely hear me on the phone, is there any way to increase the input volume?
also, local calls seem to connect just fine and last long but as soon as i call international, in this case its portugal, after a couple of minutes the call seems to drop. also the audio seems to get choppy sometimes, seems to happen alot if we talk over one another.

it cant be my connection as i have a 30mbps connection with 2mbps upload, also i have a dir-655 router with ports open for my ata..... so it must be some settings on the ata that need to be adjusted. any help is greatly appreciated!

One thing you can try is running STUN (almost any STU server will do eg. stun.xten.com, stun.voipuser.org or stun.ekiga.net) but try another if the first fails. This should change the information in "NAT Mapped IP: 0.0.0.0 NAT Mapped Port: 0". They try another call. You seem to have some RTP packet loss, are you running other services using upload on the network (eg. torrents). I notice you are using MS Vista and it could be that, at times (most of the time perhaps), Vista is checking for updated, updating or doing one of the many things it seems to do. See if you can stop some of the processes Vista insists on running if you don't turn them off.

In order to verify packet loss, you can open up command prompt and run a ping test.

Go to run program, type in CMD then press enter. One the window is opened type in: ping www.google.ca and press enter again. It should help give you an idea of any packet losses you are getting (if that is indeed the issue you are having.

I'm jumping in this thread rather late - did anything change if you disable uTorrent? Torrents also use a lot of simultaneous connections, regardless of their speed, which can sometimes put a high load on old/cheap routers.
