3G voip (Fido) on Iphone
I just started using FPL and so far it seems ok.
I am having issues with voip on 3G on my iphone.
I have purchased the config file. I also got Bria and Media5.
Both of these work fine on the iphone, ipo, ipad when on wifi.
When on 3G i have no audio. The other party can hear but i can't hear anything. This happens both when I initiate the call or answer the call.
I tried all different scenarios (stun, global ip,etc...).
I spent 2 days trying to make it work.
The interesting thing is that if I tether my ipad or ipod to my iphone (still on 3G) bluetooth, both ipad and ipod work fine.
Can someone please help?
Thank you!

What are you using for a codec? Freephoneline supports g.729 and g.711u (ulaw)

I tried all codecs. I even bought the g729.
None of these iphone apps work over 3G. No matter what codec I try.
It is only a one way audio.
Thanks

I am not really surprised. FIDO is not going to make it easy to use VOIP, and it looks like you have a NAT issue that only FIDO can fix, but most likely won't. If you want VOIP, you might have to use Skype, which uses proprietary methods to navigate VOIP through nasty networks.

It is very strange though...
I just noticed that I can call another fpl number fine though... with audio!
But that's it. Any other number is one way audio only.
Wouldn't the same rule apply if it was a Fido restriction for voip?

Re: 3G voip (Fido) on Iphone
I do not think it is an intentional restriction on FIDO's part, it just that SIP VOIP is already really horrid when it comes to navigating though NATs. Fido just happens to have a crappy NAT implementation, and I do not see how FIDO would have any incentive to fix it.

Using Bria on the iPhone, have you tried using ICE alone and as well as STUN? You may find that it makes a difference.

If you want to experiment could try using something like Sipsorcery (long term use cost $35 or so per year) or calling via a voip provider that uses an outgoing proxy server.

I got it work on Groundwire but you need to buy NAT cost 99cent per month and $10 for G729 one time payment

Re: 3G voip (Fido) on Iphone
I just found a solution for this problem, after I have tested many features and many apps through NAT, here is what I came up with:
If you are using BRIA, go to Accounts | select the Fongo/Freephoneline/DellVoice account | Account Advanced | Select GLOBAL IP MOBILE
If you are using ACROBITS / GROUNDWIRE, go to Settings | SIP Accounts | select the Fongo/Freephoneline/DellVoice account | Advanced Settings | Discover Global IP | EXTERNAL
This is going to solve your problem. I worked for me.
