Purchasing Fongo VoIP unlock key service

Post by FES »

Hi There,

I am planning to get rid of my current provider and switch my home phone to Fongo. I read in the page that it cost me one time $50 to set up. Is that right? Can I transfer my number? What other fees involved? Is there any monthly payment as well?

Thanks a lot

There are absolutely no monthly payments, unless you've enabled the auto-renew feature on our World Credits for long distance. To port your number, it is a one-time fee of $25 additional to the cost of the VoIP unlock key.

You will obviously need some sort of ATA as well if you are planning to connect your home phones. They cost around $50.

OK, I called and talk to a customer rep. It sounds good. Apparently, there is only that $50 + $25 charge and nothing else! I will switch soon...! One more question that I forgot to ask: Do you guys have 416 Toronto numbers to assign if I don't want to transfer my old number and want to get a new number? Thanks

Unfortunately we do not. Toronto-416 numbers are pretty rare nowadays unless subscribers cancel (our service, or other carriers) no one really has any anymore.

It looks like Telus still has a few 416 numbers, so if you really wanted a 416 number you might be able to grab a prepaid sim card with them, request (or change) to a 416 number, then port it out. This will obviously cost a bit more so it will depend on how much you need a 416 number.

Can someone tell me if Fongo supports SIP over TCP (it's part of the standard) in addition to SIP over UDP?

The battery saving characteristics of TCP (greatly increased keep-alive interval needed to keep service provider NAT entry nailed up) is significant and makes it a very, very good thing to have. FWIW, the pbxes.org people realize this; that's why sipdroid/pbxes uses TCP, and TCP-level keep-alives for even greater efficiency.

It's $25 one time fee for the port yes. It would actually be a $99 (not 50) for the ATA device and VOIP unlock. If you already have a third party ATA device then it's 50 for the VOIP unlock. All the same, I have purchased the device and ported my old number from Rogers successfully and everything works great so far!
