What does use Dell Voice 90-days mean?
I am thinking about signing up for a Dell Voice account mainly for "follow me" and free one number services, but under the FAQ there is a line saying:
"There are no fees to obtain this number, however you must ensure that you use your Dell Voice service at least once every 90 days"
So I have a quick question about the 90-days of "use." Does that mean users are required to make a call with Dell voice once every 90 days to keep their number active? Or does it mean you just have to sign-in using the Dell Voice application once every 90-days?
I am aware of the "unlock" option that will keep these services always active, but I can't seem to find the pricing for that on the main website.
If anyone could provide information on these two question I would be very grateful.
Thank you all in advance!

I think that in order to keep your number you must use it at least once every 90 days (that is, call in on the number). The unlock fee is $50
http://www.dellvoice.ca/extras
and it allows you to use the service on a ATA or using a SIP client on a PC or phone.

Re: What does use Dell Voice 90-days mean?
hi dibsmft, thanks for the quick reply. I am looking into the unlock option, but according to the link you sent, the dell voice and the Fongo free service are two different accounts. Basically, I want to know can I keep my phone number, and have this service on my homephone as well?
Or is there a way to combine dell voice and Fongo Free service accounts? I am looking into Dell voice/Fongo because I am looking into centralising all my numbers into one number- so having two more numbers would not be ideal. Thanks a lot for the help so far!

Logging in every 90 days is gonna be annoying, do you have to use one of the voice dailer application( desktop, iphone, android) or can I just log into the webpage?

I'm not sure if logging into the webpage will work, just call your own DV number and let it pick up or go to voice mail, that should count as "using" it. If you get calls from other people on your DV line, that should also reset your 90 day counter.vaporize wrote:Logging in every 90 days is gonna be annoying, do you have to use one of the voice dailer application( desktop, iphone, android) or can I just log into the webpage?

albertkun what you want is porting your number, you want to transfert your existing home number to dell voice , you need to call them and for 25$ they will take your number and bring it to their servers so you gonna be able to have this number in your cellphone and home phone , with an ATA routeur.
if you choose to port, you need to make sure your number has been port BEFORE YOU CANCEL your old service.

You may want to get clarification directly from a Fongo/FPL/DV representative as to what "active" means. If you don't have an unlock key, I **think** it means logging INTO the application and making an outgoing call -- either to your voicemail or any other number. I do not **THINK** that incoming calls count, as people could be calling your number even if you are no longer actively using it!
However, I think that once you have purchased the UNLOCK key, your account remains active indefinitely, as you have NOW paid for the service.
I believe that the purpose of "timing out" accounts was to recycle unused ones, and also prevent farming or harvesting of multiple numbers.
Again, I strongly urge you to get an official word from a Fongo/DV/FPL rep regarding account expiry ...

inactivity is classed as no inbound or outbound usage. As the others have said, once you purchase a VoIP unlock key or port your number then the timer is removed and you will not loose the number if left inactive. As TheHardy said, it's a prevention measure to ensure DIDs aren't being tied up or harvested by spammers

Do you have to have BOTH outgoing and incoming activity within 90 days? I tend to call out, but not receive calls, very often...

So basically set up a reminder on your calendar system, repeating every ~12 weeks, to call yourself on DV/Fongo
I wonder if there's a way to make Google Voice or similar, triggered by Google Calendar or similar, place a canned call so that no human intervention is required — you know, something along the lines of a Robocall

Politically INcorrect
Well, you would first have to verify your political affiliation, and then also make sure that there was some sort of political issue to harass or mislead someone about ... THEN and ONLY then could you trigger a RoboCall(tm) ....bylo wrote:I wonder if there's a way to make Google Voice or similar, triggered by Google Calendar or similar, place a canned call so that no human intervention is required — you know, something along the lines of a Robocall
