status is always offline

i am using the Dell Voice PC, when i open contacts, all my friends are offline, but really the are online, and also, when i am online, they can't see me either.. but i try to right ckilck their name and call them, it successfully works, we can make a phone call..so does anyone know what happen and how to fix this problem.. my friend and i both can't see each other online
