My Experience in porting thus far.....

Post by c150rocks »

Hello,
Just wanted to share my experience with everyone. I had home phone and DSL with Brand X. I signed up for freephoneline.ca , purchased ATA, purchased SIP configuration settings. I was able to get my ATA up and running and very impressed with quality. I tested for a few days....then decided time to port my home number to fongo (freephoneline). I followed instructions, not to contact Brand X, until I had a confirmation the porting was successful. I received a email stating porting went through..., checked my sip settings and saw my home number instead of the freephoneline.ca number . All good :) Checked my home DSL connection and found it was dead.....oh oh..... Called Brand X to cancel home phone and ask what happened to my DSL...and explained I had it ported out to new provider. I was told since number was ported out, your twisted pair connection was also cut, hence your DSL service. I said, ok fine...hook me up a dry loop and I'd like to continue using Brand X for DSL. No problem Sir, that will be 5 to 7 business days which was not negotiable. I talked to a manager and explained how important the DSL was to me, that I've lost my internet, that I have no phone blah blah blah....Manager as put a rush on my ticket and assured my my email account would not be touched and that I could log in via the web to retrieve my email. Well.....today I checked my email and it's been shut down by Brand X....After about 40 minutes on phone, I'm told there is nothing that can be done until my DSL is restored.

In closing, just wanted to share my experience and if I did something wrong based on my explanation can somebody make suggestions so others do not go through this. I never expected a seamless transition because of all the variables so I'm not really surprised so to speak..... As for freephoneline.ca and fongo thus far I'm very impressed with their customer service, communications and the quality of their VOIP service.

Cheers all
