PAP2T seems to "drop out"
First of all because I am new here, hello!
OK, now the problem I seem to be getting.
I have paid for the config file, and set everything up fine but what I am finding is the PAP2T seems to drop out of sync with freephoneline. What I mean by this is when I first set the box up I could ring in and everything is fine. Perfect sound both way. After a while when I try to call in there is a long silence, then a busy, or unattainable signal. If I down power the PAP2T then power it back up again everything works fine again.
I can always dial out without any problems, and I have set the IP of the PAP2T in the DMZ for the router.
Can anyone suggest what is going on, or what might be the cause of this?
Many thanks!
Jake

Re: PAP2T seems to "drop out"
Another thing I have just tried is down powering the PAP2T altogether and calling. I have left it down powered for about an hour now, but when I call my number I still get the busy / unattainable tone. Shouldn't that have gone to my voicemail if there was no ATA or softphone logged into my account?
Any help would be appreciated.
Jake
** Edit, wouldn't you know it, I have just phone again and I now get my voicemail. The initial problem still exists though.

That is pretty strange. I'll test this tomorrow if I could get your number from you (PM or Email)
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: PAP2T seems to "drop out"
I thought I had something when I noticed my firmware was not up to date. I installed the latest version but it is still doing it. If I put the re-register time at 60 everything is OK.
Anyway, for now I am passing it through a 3cx pbx that I have installed and that all seems to be working well so far.
I will be testing it for the next few days, then I will be talking to Bell about dropping the phone line and saving some money

Re: PAP2T seems to "drop out"
On an aside, how do you like 3CX? Have you ever compared it to Asterisk? When I have the time, I'm going to assemble some old parts at home for a PBX but I'm unsure which system I'll run it on!Jake wrote:I thought I had something when I noticed my firmware was not up to date. Re: PAP2T seems to "drop out"
Like you I have not got enough spare bits together to run a dedicated box for Asterisk yet. I have the disk ready, just not the machine. I tried Axon first, which was OK, but I do like 3CX better. The free version does all we need here.mindabsence wrote:On an aside, how do you like 3CX? Have you ever compared it to Asterisk? I got into the VOIP stuff because I am an expat from the UK, and I found buying the calling cards a pain especially when they kept running out. I have managed to set up several UK numbers that fire back to the 3CX and then to the home phones though the PAP2T, so family calling me now only ring a local number which is good for them. I even managed to get one for my little home town of Lymington which really shocked me, and Dad who still lives there. The service FPL offer is a bit of a no brainer as it is just so good. A lot more of Canada has just become 'local' to me

I have a feeling I will be talking to a few of my friends here to get them set up with FPL. So far I have been nothing but impressed.

Re: PAP2T seems to "drop out"
Hi, I have the same exact problem. I wanted to know how does the 3CX phone work's. Can I still receive calls on my physical phone or must I use my computer?
Also another thing to the problem, I cannot have a conversation that last longer than 10 minutes, after that the call drop-out.
Thank you for your help.

Re: PAP2T seems to "drop out"
The 3CX pbx is from another company (Google it and it will come up) I don't think it is going to upset FPL too much if I mention a few words about it, but I won't go on as this isn't really a 3CX forum.joc_cro wrote:Hi, I have the same exact problem. I have my PAP2T connected to a 3CX pbx that is running on an old computer in the basement. I have connected the house phone jacks into one of the PAP2T ports, and a walkabout phone set in the other. These are both set up as different extensions in the pbx. So to answer your question, yes I use my phones in the house to make calls, just as I did when I was connected with Bell.
In fact this set up is even better because I have found that when one of the PAP2T extensions is in use (daughter

Re: PAP2T seems to "drop out"
So not to pry, you mean you took the CAT3 pair from your TNI that used to be with Bell (Now cut I assume) and plugged it into your PAP2T? I was under the impression it wasn't powerful enough for that... In my opinion, the more efficient way would be to add an FXS Card similar to the Intel 600SM PCI Phone Adapter, now I have yet to try this so you'd be on your own for that. Then you could use the computer to do all your switching & IVR / recording (I'm aware it's a home phone - No one say's I can't have my own IVR!) and use your PAP2T as extensions for yourself, your daughter, wife, cat, kitchen, etc....

Re: PAP2T seems to "drop out"
Yes that is what I did, removed the wires and connected the PAP2T into one of the jacks and it feeds all the sockets in the house. It works perfectly from what I can tell. I have several extensionsadmin wrote:So not to pry, you mean you took the CAT3 pair from your TNI that used to be with Bell (Now cut I assume) and plugged it into your PAP2T? 1. The main house jacks
2. The walkabout phone set
3. 3 different softphones on computers.
The computer is the answer phone / switchboard. I can even make it ring the house jacks at night and not the bedroom phones which are on the walkabout phone.
As all the phone wires come back to one point I guess I could set up several PAP2Ts to make each jack it own extension, but we don't use the phone that much

Re: PAP2T seems to "drop out"
So Mr.admin Kris,
Are we the only two person who got this problem? I have follow the setting of Tony and it did not change a thing. Is there something else that I can try, because I don't really want to have my computer running all the time.
Thank's
