I got an old linksys pap2 phone adapter. Will this old version still be good to use for Dell Voice. I searched online and most information I find on the linksys phone adapter is the newer pap2T or newer, and very few information on pap2. I'm guessing that it may be too old.
I don't want to spend $50 just to see it doesn't work with this since the $50 is non-refundable as I was told and I can't test it out. I don't want to spend on a new phone adapter either. I figure if I have it make use of it.
Is anyone using this first gen model? Or maybe anyone know if I would still be able to use it? Thanks.

Post the model number and the firmware version that is in it. If you want to try out on a free SIP account then you could try getonsip.com At getonsip.com you can get a free SIP account that you can test.

It is a good bet that ATA will work with Fongo, as long as it is unlocked.
I like dibsmft suggestion on using getonsip as a test account. I personally use iptel.org, but it is the same concept. I will expand further in that you can get a free Washington state phone number which you can direct to your getonsip account. http://www.ipkall.com/ With these accounts you can debug your ATA and router NAT issues. And when you do, Fongo should be a piece of cake.

Re: Old Linksys PAP2
Iptel.org would be an excellent alternative except that it is a little more complicated than getonsip and gives more problems with first time users (in my experience). Getonsip is really simple and uses an outgoing proxy server making connection for the first time very easy.

Thanks for the tips. Thanks dibsmft for your pm. I signed up for getonsip and will give it a try now.
I was following this http://www.voip-info.org/wiki/view/Link ... ng+Methods
which I found online to help me reset it. I didn't use it before since it was actually a friends that he left here for me a long time ago. I reset it and am now able to get into the thing by typing in the ip address which I found how to do using this
http://blog.2talk.co.nz/pap2t.html
The model on the bottom just says pap2 so the second link seems to be for the newer version.
Anyway, I'm all new to this stuff so thanks for your help and patience. I'm going to figure out how I can find out the exact version and firmware. I'll even fiddle around with the info I got from getonsip.

You can get the firmware version from the IVR:
Pick up the connected phone
Dial ****
At the prompt dial 150
The IVR should announce the version of the firmware.
sent you a pm

Re: Old Linksys PAP2
So I checked the firmware version. Apparently it's 3.1.9c and it maybe locked. How do I know if it's locked. I tried going into the admin login and I don't know the password. Anyway, this seems too complicated to me. I may not even be able to use it for dell voice.
Thanks for all those who replied and helped. I think I'll just use the Dell Voice app on the computer.

Re: Old Linksys PAP2
The advanced username is admin but it should not ask the password if none has been set (I think). Failing anything else you
could try a factory reset which might then allow you into the admin section if the device is/was not locked.
I think it is a fairly standard PAP2 so, as long as it is not actually locked, it should work OK.
If the PAP2 will not let you into the advanced set up it is likely locked and may not be worth bothering with although some can be unlocked if you
know how to do it.

It maybe locked. Anyway, this is too complicated, guess I won't be using it. I'll just stick with the computer app.
