keep my existing phone number with freephoneline

I would like to keep my existing phone number with freephoneline, and I am willing to pay 20$ to do that. However, I would like to use my number with the softphone, and not with an ATA device. I have called the customer service and they told me that they cannot port my number to use it only with the softphone, without buying the ATA device.

Has anyone succeed porting their number without having an ATA device ?

Right now it porting causes a miscommunication between your desktop phone and the server.

The softphone was originally designed as a testing only phone.

If you uninstall all traces of the desktop phone and try after porting is done it may work but I will make no garuntees.
