FREE calling area - lookup vs list

Post by TheHardy »

Well, to the avid readers, my gripes and concerns are nothing new ...

DellVoice and Fongo have addressed some of my issues concerning the updating of lists for what is a FREE call and what is not.

The RateLookUp Tool (http://www.dellvoice.ca/ldServices) seems to be up-to-date for what the TARIFF is, even if sometimes it IS itself INACCURATE (many kudos to Steve for getting errors fixed!!!!). However, the larger and more complete LIST (http://www.dellvoice.ca/completeList?country=CANADA) appears to be completely OUT OF SYNC with the RateLookUp Tool. It would be nice if the list itself somehow auto-updated DAILY (or at least WEEKLY) to match up better with the data that the RateLookUp tool accesses.

I know this was asked some time ago ... and also the request to have ratecentre names added to both the LIST and also the CALL LOGS ... all of the freshly added nonDID FREE areas are still only showing up as generic CANADA, rather than their ratecentre (or city) names.

Too much to ask for an update?

Quasi-self-bump.

I know that with the major outtage over the weekend, some messages and stuff more than likely got lost in the associated CLUTTER ...

Hopefully this catches Steve's eye in passing and can be added to the wishlist --- synchronizing the RateLookUp Tool against the CompleteListing popup ...

Thanks for any corrections and input!

This hasn't been forgotten about - our development team is only so big so all items are prioritized for completion against other tasks.

Fair enough Steve -- did not know if it had gotten missed -- at least with the ack, I know it hasn't been missed! :-) Thanks for that.

Just curious (and this may be too far out there), but could the generation of the LIST (show all feature from the country list -- at least for CANADA) not be tied into the same thing that supposedly does the AUTO-TARIFF update? If some external database is being polled for information to generate the TARIFF, then a follow-on feature to generate the LIST by extracting the data from the TARIFF should be no problem.
(and if it is, I know that Jake has written some simple scripts that extract data from both CNAC and also your own website -- he has shared those with you in other threads and also PM....)

I am not a coder, but I can take the raw .CSV type file from say the CNAC site and run filters on it in an Excel/OpenOffice s/sheet and get my own lists/tables too ... and I know I can script that ... just cannot CODE as I ain't no pro-grammer! ;-)

Thanks for having it under consideration! :ugeek: ;-)

I'm sure Fongo will probably not be open to this, but I would be more than happy to lend a hand with whatever is needed on this topic. It still baffles me why a lot of this is not correct and kept up to date.

As for payment - my own curiosity on the subject is all I will need in return. I have more than a bit of spare time on my hands, as long as it isn't sunny outside ;) being from the UK I still find all this good weather something to behold!

I did not mean to "volunteer" you into anything, I was merely using your previous efforts as an example.

I am similarly baffed -- hence my many posts on these topics. The inaccurate TARIFF is one of the most major sore points with me, and the out-of-date list comes a close second.

As I stated one post up, I don't get (from a layman perspective) why this seems to be so damn hard to be on top of? You can probably speak more to the CODING side of it, Jake, but to me it seems that it is NOT rocket-science to 'gitter done'.

Tariffs ... gah, missing new exchanges in existing ratecentres, and the bane of "shouldn't this ratecentre be free?" ... do I need to say more than Saguenay? :?

(and not to poke a Fongo eye, but still confused my the lack of LCA around included ratecentres...)
