transfer existing phone number to fongo
Is it possible to move my existing cell phone number (mobilicity) to Fongo?
I want to keep my existing phone number in case i was moving out of town or country for a brief period of time and wanted to have my number and voicemail active. Is it possible to port number to fongo?

For $25 we are able to port numbers from other carriers. Please give our sales team a call when you're ready to get the process under way! Porting may take up to 2-4 weeks to complete.

It also depends on if your number is in an area where Fongo will port in from. They are not able to port in every number, but you should be told this when you call up to start the port.
On top of the 25$ for the port, I believe you also have to pay for the config file which is 50$

One of the recent changes, is that you no longer need to purchase the VoIP unlock key in order to be able to port your number

config/unlock not required to port in
That would be worth of a change to the website to mention that, Mike ... although you could put it in small print so that users would be more inclined to purchase the config file at the same time!FONGO_mike wrote:Jake wrote:

If you post the first 6-digits of your Mobilicity number, some of our esteemed forum members can tell you if it satisfies the above criteria.Jake wrote:It also depends on if your number is in an area where Fongo will port in from. The long way to say this is that Fongo can ONLY port in numbers where it CURRENTLY offers local DID numbers (because essentially it needs to GIVE BACK a number to Mobilicity when it takes over yours).
From what I know, however, Mobilicity has a limited enough footprint that 99% of the areas in which it offers phone numbers SHOULD be covered by FPL/Fongo at this time.
As I say, post some information about where your Mobilicity number is based out of (or the first 6) and we can let you know! You can verify it yourself by making sure that Fongo does offer local numbers in your area (assuming you know how to check that) or we can help you out here!

First 6 digits of my phone number are 647-702.
Do you think fongo will port my number? I'm with mobilicity and i'm in Toronto area.

Your number is a Toronto number where Fongo has dids. I don't see why they could not?

Re: transfer existing phone number to fongo
This outta be a winner for you. Unless Mobilicity somehow blocks the port, you should have no problems. Call up Fongo to speak to a rep to start the porting process. DO NOT CANCEL your Mobilicity service NOR LET THEM KNOW that you are planning on porting out. Be aware that if you had a handset on a subsidy from them, you may have to pay that off before they will let you port out, so they may DENY the initial port request (only YOU know your account details and how it is set up, just one pitfall to watch out for!).aryob wrote:First 6 digits of my phone number are 647-702.

I notice that 647-702 was ORIGINALLY a WIND number, so I assume you ported over to Mobilicity ... therefore you know the procedure already (or at least kind of). Seeing this is essentially a "double-port", it may take Mobilicity a little longer to complete the port OUT to Fongo, as it is originally a WIND number (it means more behind the scenes work for them, nothing to do with you). Should not affect COMPLETION of the PORT, may just take a day or two longer to do...
Let us know how it goes!

Re: transfer existing phone number to fongo
You are right it was a wind number ported to mobilicity and i own the handset (bought off ebay). I did call Fongo but unfortunately I was talking to a gentleman who wasn't too sure about the process. He told me that it'll take 2-3 weeks for porting to complete. Is that really how long it should take? In that case I need I need my number running with mobilicity until april 28, when should I ask fongo to start porting?TheHardy wrote:This outta be a winner for you. Re: transfer existing phone number to fongo
Hi aryob,
It is indeed about 2-3 weeks for porting to be completed form the time it is ordered (paying the $25+tax porting fee). When you make the request for porting (Do not notify your provider as if there is a cancellation request, they may deny the port out) If you call more then 2 or 3 weeks in advance, you can make a request for the number to be ported on a certain date.
