beep heard at intervals on receiving side only

Post by terfed »

Hello,

I have an interesting situation. When calling, the party receiving the call, hear a beep on their side. It happens at 30-60 sec intervals (hasnt really been timed). I have
a linksys PAP2T with 5.1.6 fw. It is on on another VOIP provider that received call that has noticed it.. I do not recall hearing anything with cell phone etc...

Initially, I was wondering if it was a call timer setting, but cant recall if I have seen or even playing with that setting,... A second possibility was during set up on-line in acct, I perhaps accidentally set up some sort of call timer??

I followed the exact set up file as described ATA Config-LinksysPAP2T... Very good help..

Is there a solution --setting I can alter etc so that the there is beep for the other party on the phone?

Second part of question, porting Bell # to FPL it is scheduled for next week.. Do I need to reconfigure ATA at the point with new #? Obviously same pass word?
Secondly, Bell called to see if they can keep me... They were going to offer a $21/mth and $5 per month for 500 minutes long distance.. They said the notice of cancellation came up.. Can bell possibly screw this up??? Like no # to port??

No answer for your beeping, sorry. As for BELL screwing things up, only if you somehow cancelled the service with them before the port out is complete. They may try to be silly buggers, but it is unlikely, unless you have given them reason to, or someone for a mysterious reason decides to be a dink about allowing the port out.

Most port ins to FPL have gone rather well, with no real issues other than a few snags here and there, at least that have been posted about! :-)

90% chance that all will go smooth ... ;-)

As long as you haven't cancelled your phone line with Bell, everything should go OK. But who knows with Bell....

When you do get ported over, all you should need to do is change your account number (phone number) in the ATA, it sounds like you suspect that anyways though.

There is nothing in the ATA that I know of that would cause a beep. Maybe battery getting low or out of range on his end?

 If it can be done... I m sure Bell will !
I was a bit insulted by Bell the conversation.. 500 minutes for $10 for long distance pfft! reduce monthly charge to $21.95 from $29... Yes I was born at night but not last night..

The beeping is was at 2:40 , 3:00 minute intervals...

I tried a call voip to landline..5 minutes no beeps... :?

WRT the beeping.

It is common on the PAP2T for higher pitched voices (mainly women) to cause the ATA to trigger a DTMF tone. When you say "beeping", is the callee hearing what sounds like a digit being pressed on the keypad, or more like a beep to indicate the call is being recorded. Now, if you're not a telephony geek, you may not know the difference. :)

Anywho, if it is indeed the PAP2T doing it, trying changing the DTMF settings in the ATA to Inband or RFCXXXX.

Just logged in to mine, DTMF Tx is under the Line settings. Options are AVT, Inband, INFO & Auto. I would try Inband and see if the issue goes away. Make sure after you change the option that you check that anything you normally use DTMF for (voicemail, telephone banking, auto attendants) still works. Some providers have issues with using Inband. My PAP2 connects to my Asterisk server, so I can't tell you what works for FPL. The other option is to check the device configuration thread for the PAP2T and see what they suggest to use in there.

Just checked the config thread. I see it says to set the preferred codec as G729. Do not use Inband if you are using G729, it won't work well at all.

Hi tbrummel..

Yes it is women. Heard by callee... will just tell them to use a deeper voice :)

I tried out the 711u with inband... The call quality dropped really echoed.. sluggish when calling and having to press buttons for auto attendants..

thanks for the hint...
