Using bluetooth with Dell Voice app

I have the Dell voice app, (and bud phone app) installed on my Windows desktop. I'm trying to use my bluetooth headset when I make a call and it never works.
I can hear the tones in my bluetooth headset when I'm dialing a number, but when it makes a phone connection, I cannot hear the person speaking, and they cannot hear me.
All I hear in my headset is that annoying Windows 'Ding' sound over and over again.
I know that bluetooth works fine on my computer because I've used it with other application. Has anyone else run into this issue before??
