Fongo Information for complete Newbe

Post by aesop1 »

Hello all,

I have been on the Fongo website and on the forum, but have not found the information I need.

I am interested in downloading the desktop version of Fongo. How exactly does this product work? What type of phone do I need to use? Are there fees? If anyone has the time to provide a step-by-step, it would be greatly appreciated. I apologize if the information is on the forum, I just haven't been able to find it.

Thanks so much !

If you just want the desktop phone, then it is just a program that runs on your computer. You will use you speakers and mic (preferably headphones and mic) and it will act as a phone. You will be able to call out and receive calls on the number you get (for free). If you do this then there is no charge for calling the free call areas, nor for receiving calls to your number. It is a normal phone number as far as anyone calling you is concerned.

You can also download an APP for various smartphones and use your number on that over WIFI or 3/4G.

The best thing to do is just set up an account and download the desktop app and see what it does. Doing so won't cost you anything and if you don't like it you can just delete it :D From there you may decide that it is worth replacing your normal home phone from Rogers/Bell/etc and then you would get set up with an ATA and plug your phones into the ATA and use it like you would a normal phone. (obviously an internet connection is needed for the ATA for it to work).
