Rings
I setup the voice mail for after 5 rings. When someone calls me they hear the 5 rings before they get the voice mail, however my phone (the receiving phone) rings only once and stops ringing after. How can I get it to ring 5 times?

Could you post some more info about your setup? Hard to diagnose what may be the cause if we do not know what you are using ... ?

Re: Rings
now, I connected the phone directly to the ATA. I don't get a dial tone. It seems that I need to adjust the port forward, which I did that in the LinkSys router. Do I need to do anything in my huawei MT130u?

Re: Rings
Your network looks like it may overload the HT286 at it looks like you have 4 phones and lots of wire. The HT286 it rated to handle 3 phones I think. As for the huawei MT130u modem, you should not need to do anything to it but I have no experience with then at all.
For port forwarding I can only say what I normally do but since it does depend on the router. I would check the Linksys router to see the range of IPs that it uses for DHCP (shrink it down if it uses a huge range ... 1 to 50 may be plenty for you). Forward the required ports (for me it is 5064 UDP and 8004 - 8006 UDP but FPL may require more) to an IP just outside the range used by the router for DHCP say 192.168.x.52 (x depends on your router default). Then, set your ATA to use the static IP with the 192.168.x.52 address and the ports that you forwarded to that IP from the router. Reboot the router and ATA ...... everything should now work OK BUT if it does not then your will need to run STUN (stun.callwithus.com ..... time Fongo offered its own STUN server) and reboot the ATA. Since the phone rings are generated locally by the ATA there may a difference it the number heard by you and the caller but 5 rings before you hear one seems a bit much.

Re: Rings
Thanks everyone for your comments.
I have now disconnected the whole network and here is what I have:
Internet Provider: Acanac
Cable modem: Huawei MT130u
Router: linksys wrt54g v5
ATA: Grandstream HT-286
Now, the phone is ringing fine. When I pick up, I can not hear the other person but he can hear me. Also, when I try to make a call, I can not hear any dial tone (I can make the call but I do not hear any dial tone). How do I check the "port forward" and how do I make sure the right ports are open?

Re: Rings
Hmmn, now we know your router that might change things a little. It seems that the linksys wrt54g may not be a good router for voip unless you run alternative firmware on it DDWRT

so this might be a source of the problem that you are having.

Re: Rings
Thanks dibsmft. I do appreciate your help!
I connected the ATA to the Cable modem yesterday (by passed the router) and I had the same problem. I will repeat this test today again to confirm.
What is next? Should I contact Acanac (my ISP) and ask them to open specific ports? Do I need to change anything in my Cable modem?

Did you reconfigure the ATA for use with the modem? What did/didn't work?MGVOIP wrote:Thanks dibsmft. I do appreciate your help!

Re: Rings
Hard to say for sure. There seems to be little information about this modem. It should be OK if you set the ATA back to DHCP mode so that it gets its IP from the modem and the other information it needs. You can use the IVR .. see Page 9 of the manual. (Note: You may also hear error codes and these are listed on page 10).

Try pressing *** even though you only hear noise. You should hear "Enter a menu option" or perhaps some error messages.

Re: Rings
This is with the phone plugged into the ATA directly? With my HT286 powered up, not connected to the internet and with a phone connected to the ATA the red light should flash. Then, when I hit *** on the phone I get the announcement "Enter a Menu Option" and the same should happen for you.MGVOIP wrote:When I click ***. I don't hear anything, only static.
*** 01 "Static IP Mode"
*** 02 "192.168.002.003" the static IP that it has.
On connection to the internet and power cycling (seems to be needed) the red light ceases to flash, I get a dial tone and I can make and receive calls.
Check all your connections etc and if you still cannot get it to work then we need to look deeper.

Re: Rings
What does the red light do? Is it on off or flashing? It might be worth trying an alternative phone to ATA cable as these sometimes fail and try a different phone perhaps the one that you are using in faulty.
Are you able to access the web based menu of the ATA?
Before you go any further you need to determine that the ATA is actually functioning correctly.
I am wondering if the best thing to do may be to set it back to factory (see the manual) and then see if the tests work.

Re: Rings
If you configured the HT286 according to FPL it may have call features disabled so * codes will be passed on rather that interpreted locally (default setting). I am not sure exactly what codes it covers and it should not cover the IVR but you may want to check it if you can get to the ATA set up page and turn the features back on while you are testing.
