I had some help here about 2 years ago when initially completing my setup. Since then, aside from a few hiccups, it has mostly been a case of 'set it and forget it', the service has worked very well. However, while making some changes to my network recently, my phone stopped working. Everything is plugged in as it is, the only change is there is now the presence of a media server beside the ATA (DVG-2001S). No changes were made to the codec priorities or anything else in the ATA congifuration.
Since plugging the ATA back into the network, the FPL site lists it as disconnected and there is no dial tone for outgoing calls. When an incoming call is received, it sometimes gets to the point of the phone ringing and sometimes not. If it does ring, answering it only brings static. The ATA itself always sees the phone call in that the "Phone" light lits up when ringing.
Very confused...on the other hand, the PC app and Dell Voice app for iPod work quite well. Any help/advice would be appreciated.
No dial tone for outgoing calls, incoming not delivered.

Did you forward ports from your router to the ATA? You probably need to review your settings. The media server will also be using an IP and ports and may be competing with the ATA. Try removing the media server and then pwer off everything modem, router, ATA and anything else on the network, wait 10 minutes and the power up the modem, then the router followed by ther ATA ...... see if tha ATA works. Fix the IP of the ATA and forward the required ports to it (if you have not already done so) and where possible give other devices on the net work fixed (static IPs) and forward to them any ports they need. Reboot the router and then the ATA and test again.

I would just add to make sure if you have forwarded posts, to make sure the Media Server has no stolen the IP your ATA was using. If it has then obviously now you are forwarding to the wrong IP.

Finally got around to this. After reading your suggestions, I realized the media server and SIP ATA coexisted happily for a couple of weeks before they were installed in their current positions. No IP addresses were stolen - the ATA is the only thing plugged into the router at the moment and it is behaving the same way - the only thing I can think of that I haven't tried is a simple wired phone...

Did you set up static IP and forward ports and then power down both the router and ATA wait 10 minutes and the restart the router followed by the ATA? I you or someone followed all the instructions for port availability for Windows media server (for example) then your ATA may well have problems.

Re: No dial tone for outgoing calls, incoming not delivered.
Finally resolved!
After plugging in an old corded phone I still heard the buzzing. It's not like poor quality VOIP static, it's just buzzing.
I thought about what hadn't been checked in the setup yet. Even though I took everything off the network and added the ATA back on by itself I never thought about the power adapter that was supplying AC power to the unit. Sure enough, the whole time, this buzzing was caused by my having plugged the AC adapter from an amp (that powers backyard deck speakers) into the ATA and the ATA adapter into the amp. As soon as the correct power supply was present, dial tone and can make all calls.
Thanks for your help and suggestions, the problem was complete user ignorance:)

Are you sure it is not "....the problem was complete user ingenuity if finding an alternate power source to better suit my needs and circumstance"?

You need to take care where you drape wires etc. The old power blocks were transformers and the worst that they would do is introduce ac hum into the audio (60 Hz in Canada 50 in the UK). As I understand it, the more recent power blocks reduce the rectified AC input (or DC) voltage by "switching" the power on and off rapidly (eg reducing 110 volts to 55 volts by only being on about half the time) and then smoothing and regulating the output. These power supplies will produce a buzzing noise in your audio if is being picked up by the sound system. The Grandstream 286 and other ATAs can pick up this kind of interference so keep them away from power supplies. In the extreme the my HT286 will fail completely to connect and produces rather a nasty noise from the phone!
