Landline to VOIP transition
Hi there. I'm decided to go voip now and removing my landline after transition. Already registered with freephoneline.ca and got the voip unlock code, tested it on my android smartphone and was ok and clear. Ordered Obi100 ATA from amazon and will be receiving after two weeks.
Just want to ask if this procedure is correct and will not cause delays/problems. I'm in Toronto Canada.
1. Call freephoneline.ca to start porting my landline number and pay the fee.
2. Wait until porting is finished and successful.
2. Call my DSL provider to get dry loop (naked dsl) and after that cancel the landline.
And also is it worth getting the dry loop fee of $8.00 +tax on top of my current dsl fee (right now i'm paying $33.00 taxes in on dsl) or just switch to cable internet so no more dry loop fees which is $36.50 + tax.
I'm paying $32.00 tax in on my landline right now and i seldom use it.
Any inputs are appreciated.

Re: Landline to VOIP transition
If you have cable service in your area, you should use cable instead of dsl to avoid the dry loop fee.
Once you ordered porting out the landline, you do not have to call Bell to cancel it. It will be cancelled automatically once the port is complete.

Once it is done I will call Bell and tell them I need a dry loop and to cancel my home phone (the guy at Fongo said I don't need the dry loop, but 99% sure he's wrong). I have Bell Fibe Internet so the dry loop is free anyways (or so I've been told).

You do not need the dry loop per se. All you need is high speed internet in order to get the service working.

Re: Landline to VOIP transition
You will find that Fongo/FPL no longer provides official tech support for ATA's _NOT_ purchased from them (relatively new policy). However, there are forum members here that may be able to assist you, or there is also quite a wealth of previously posted configuration assistance here -- try out the SEARCH function from the top right corner here and see what you can find! There is also the config section that you can read thru at leisure if the search does not yield you relevant information ... also try other search strings, but OBIHAI CONFIG is probably a good start!rdizzle wrote: HI Mike, I'm having trouble getting FPL set up. Re: Landline to VOIP transition
Needing a loop or not will depend entirely on your ISP (in some cases a wet loop instead of a dry loop is needed)trini4ever wrote:

Our service is not dependent of a dry loop, the only thing you need is high speed internet.
