Where can I find old dellvoice app?

Post by friedayau »

Hi everybody,

I am using iphone 3G with version 4.2.1, it is unable to download the new dellvoice app in the phone. But it was working fine with the old dell voice old app (one month agao). I need to reinstall the old app. Does anyone know when I can find the old dell voice app in my iphone 3G? Thank you very much.

If you have not already found the older version (dunno where..... sorry!), but another thread has posted that 1.4.2 has been released -- this may correct your issue!

I would just like to mention that he is using an iPhone and the Apple APP is still on 1.4.1.71; it is only the Android app that was updated to 1.4.2.521

Just in case anyone with an iDevice is trying to find 1.4.2.521, it has not been released yet.

Well he said he has iPhone 3G and the max version iOS for iPHone 3G is 4.2.1

You did not read his post that he mention new version of DV requires 4.3 iOS so he asked where he can download old version of DV for his iPhone.

I don't think any one bother to use DV on PC if they have iPhone that what is the beauty of having smart phone for

Only problem for people who restore their idevice such has like iPod and iPhone 3G now they could not go on appstore and download DV any more. New DV version requires new iOS such as 4.3 to 6.0 so any idevices such as iPod 1st, 2nd and iPhone 3G stuck. They could not use it cause new version of DV

Well I offered to post older version of DV, however did not allow to post in the forum and I am not going to send PM to all the members who need. I rather post the link so whoever needs it and they just download it.

More people use DV will regenerate more revenue for DV or FPL or Fongo.

Seagame: I get your point --- and to Mike/Fongo in general -- requiring OS bumps is one thing that you have to be careful of in the development of the mobile apps. Not everyone upgrades to bleeding edge, and a lot of carriers charge for OS upgrades (which is BS, but that is the way it is). Fongo should take this into account, and perhaps offer a method for "legacy" users to be able to re-download software they were using (with the warning of course that it is NOT the latest and greatest and may have bugs....) in the event that they need to do a hard reset on their devices and lose the older version of the program.

To that end, I do not see how posting a link to an available OLDER version violates the TOS of the forum, so long as the person posting it (or a mod who may edit the post) clearly adds the disclaimer that it is NOT an OFFICIAL FONGO DOWNLOAD and all precautions should be taken, wrt viruses, ensuring you trust the hoster/poster of the download, etc .... That said, I would trust Seagame as he is a valued member of the forum and has not done anything beyond reproach ... however, policy is policy, but some consideration must be given to those that WERE using a piece of software, lost it and cannot use the latest (and only!) officially available version.

Does that make sense? Seagame -- does that fit the bill too for what you were trying to accomplish? I think it is a workable solution, so long as it meets the Fongo sniff test.

I did indeed read the post. However, i am not an apple user and am not knowledgable as to all devices and what limitations they each possess.

I have not spoken out as to whether or not seagame can be trusted, and please keep in mind, if we keep a product on the market, we must continue to develop and support it. The apk files are offering our own service through means that we do not offer or support. Adding to that, as it is coming from another source, we can not verify what changes have been made to it. Using it would be done at the users own risk in regards to any harm it could cause.

I am not saying it would be harmful to your device, but i can not guarantee it would not be.

Precisely --- and that is something that the development team (software) needs to take into account. Can you please make sure that you pass this along up/down/sideways the chain to them?? I believe more than anything else, this is the point --- if you upgrade the software without fully knowing the unforeseen consequences, then you risk knocking a large portion of your userbase offline!

Again, precisely what I stated ... if it is an UNOFFICIAL archive of an older piece of software for legacy devices which are not able to run the latest official versions, then append a disclaimer to such ... of course, if Fongo were to keep historical versions available, perhaps behind a "click and accept" (liability for taking older less stable software with known limitations and bugs) model, then this could be resolved, as the source would be FONGO, secured and trusted.

The catch is Hardy, with some of the upgrades, the older versions, known bugs and all, will likely encounter new issues as they are set up to work a specific way. Some changes that are made will actually prevent older versions from working.

Fair enough. And yes that makes sense in a way. Personally, I have no vested interest in this, no dog in the fight so to speak, as I do not have a smart phone.

It is surely though, one of those things to bring back to the software developers as a concern from end users, the requirement of having a higher level OS; may I suggest that unless there is a known bug in an OS, that software be written which would incorporate the legacy OS's?? It is NOT like the java issue, but more akin to removing the capability of Win-XP users to use FPL by making the new release EXCLUSIVE to the Win-8 OS! A several $hundred upgrade ... does that make sense? Did I explain my standpoint well enough?

As a website designed I have to side a bit on Fongo's side here. If I still built sites capable of being shown properly on the first releases of IE or Netscape - I'm not sure how many people would come back. Now that is probably a bit extreme, but I don't loose much sleep if it doesn't look right properly in IE6.

Having said that, a lot of software companies do offer legacy versions of their products - regardless of it works properly or not. (logitech springs to mind ftp://ftp.logitech.com/pub/techsupport/)

I guess the thing with older OS software is to make sure the new software supports your device before removing/upgrading what you have.
I can see on both sides here, but I also understand why Fongo won't provide old versions. After all, their newest versions often have a bump or two in them, let alone throwing in an OS that might turn the bump into a mountain.

I can see that side of the 'argument' Jake. And I concur that the desire to support ALL legacy OS is not practical. The iPhone3G is NOT ancient by any stretch of the imagination, and as the OP stated, it has only been a few months since he installed a working version. I don't think that maintaining a repetiore of software for 6-mos (example) is too much to ask ... or say back a SINGLE generation in the OS. I can see moving ahead and taking advantage of features new OS's have, but there has to be a bit of a tradeoff too...

End of the day tho, it is Fongo's sandbox, and they make the rules ... if the OP follows the forum, I am sure he would know whom to ask for what he requires...
