Dell voice(fongo) won't call- no ringing, no answering

Post by crichdr »

So I'm on ios.5.0.1 on dell voice fongo app. Yesterday it worked fine on my wifi. Same wifi today, same app, same version.
I can dial the number and the app appears to send the call although there is no sound: no dial tone, no ringing, no answering, nothing. But, it will continue to count the seconds as if it is dialling.

Any ideas?

The messaging works to people through the app, tried resetting the phone, still no dial noise. Same thing is noticed on my Vonage app too now. May be a setting I flipped on the phone. Wifi works and can cruise the internet.
I dialled my fongo number through talkatone, this dialled but with talkatone, it doesn't connect to the answering machines of dialled numbers. Although, now I have a message on my fongo app. So, i can recieve calls but this app is not responding to them by ringing.
The voicemail part of fongo is dailing(app thinks it is at least) but there is no ringing sound or answering service sounds indicating that the phone is actually dialling.

Tried reinstalling, same jazz. No sound. my sound is all the way up on the phone. I tried turning off 3G setting. Nothing changed. turned on airplane mode: nothing. So no airplane mode, nothing. Just solely on wifi, nothing.

Spent an hour and a half researching online and trying different things with the phone. This is too unreliable. Anyone have the same problem or know of a solution?

Checked settings, call forwarding is off- doesn't help to turn it on. Just noticed when hitting dial the screen flashes black, then comes back on. Didn't notice this occuring before reinstalled it but wasn't specifically looking at this. Perhaps did occur. Trying to reinstall again.

Didn't help. Same deal. Perhaps it is the specific wifi today is not working with VoiP. I'll try it at home. Really dissapointed in the app though. Thumbs down.

It appears that dell voice is consistently unreliable. One month ago the same problem occurred seen on this thread. So as predicted before, I'll just wait a day and it should be back up.

Updated: looks like it take a week for it to be updated. Can't rely on this service to replace a cell phone or home phone that's for sure. "X" this on off my list. So much for the money I invested in the SMS and the calling minutes. Live and learn. I'm just glad that I didn't fork over the $25 to have my phone number switched over to this app. HA! That really would have pissed me off

Turns out it was the wifi that i was in. I got home and it worked. I'll try again on that specific wifi today to confirm this. I wonder why this app would only work on specific wifi.

Chiming in on the end of this, but yes, PUBLIC wifi frequently blocks VOIP & torrent traffic (yes, there is an ampersand in there! ;) ).

Thanks for the tirade about how Fongo sucks, but then catching that it was a WIFI issue.

Can we have a "Public WIFI sucks" rant now too please?

Happy to see you figured it out. This is the sort of information that helps us to give you steps in trouble shooting an issue.

No need for a rant about public wifi, issue is resolved, we can leave it at that. :D

It was more of a point that I was making, back against 'crichdr' ... (s)he was pretty quick to pile on Fongo and blame the whole shot there -- myself, I tend to spread blame around where it belongs, and I hope apportionately. So .. FONGO -- fix your infernal default PC softphones (all brands!)!!!!

Hi, I am having problem receiving phone calls from other cell phones. There is no sound, no ring tone if someone calls me from their cell phones. However, if someone calls me from a landline, it works.

My number was ported in August, it didn't work for the first two/three weeks. After more then 20 calls between technician the problem was fixed. And now it appears again...

Any ideas how to fix this? Thx!!!
