Calls getting dropped
iPhone 4s, iOS6
Rogers 3G wireless data plan
Hello,
Ive been using DV now for about 6 weeks. Ive had a limited number of problems with it...mostly just freezing on particular screens, buttons not working, etc. But for the most part once I was on a call, it worked fairlywell. Over the past week however people are having trouble hearing me. It usually works ok at first and then they stop being able to hear me (even though i can hear them). And then the call ultimately gets dropped. This is 100% of the time. Any advice would be greatly appreciated...please help me to avoid going back to a plan that yields $100 invoices....
Thanks,
RR

Re: Calls getting dropped
I'm having exactly the same problems with my Android app. No calls work! When I make calls, I can hear them but they cannot hear me. Very frustrating as I bought credits. Fongo people, please help.

Re: Calls getting dropped
I can only assume that a lot of these problems are caused by your setup or network. In my house my two daughters have DellVoice on their iPods. I have DV on my iPod and HTC Desire HD, and we also have a paid FPl number (or two). While at the house no one has problems. We can all make and receive calls. The girls will often be on their phones at the same time. I will point out this is all over WIFI. I don't need to use 3G on my phone because I have enough minutes and I also have DISA setup here.
My wife and daughter are currently over in New Zealand. DellVoice worked perfectly when she was at Ottawa airport, Vancouver Airport, and also from the hotel in Auckland. It didn't work in McD's over there, but I think that is because they block the voip port. FaceTime worked perfectly. I say perfectly, but if I was honest there would be the odd time that the call would drop a word or two, but I get that with a normal landline anyway.
My, rather drawn out, point is DV/Fongo does work with numerous devices with our setup. Anyone who has problems needs to try and do a bit of fault finding to help try and find out why it is not working. I used to be a callout engineer and I can't remember the amount of times I went to a place where the problem was, only to find the problem was no longer there. It is really difficult to fix a problem that you can't see or experience.
Some of the things I would suggest people try are, connect with different networks. WIFI or 3G *should* work, but we all know that voip doesn't always follow the *should* rules. If you are using 3G, how strong is the signal? Is it on a busy tower? Are you moving or stationary (IE switching between towers)? Is your provider blocking voip ports? Are you trying calls at peak times? There could be a lot of things that would cause dropouts of loss of connections, especially on 3G.
With regards to your devices. Do you have any apps that could cause problems? Task killers might think the app is asleep and terminate it. Do you have another app that might be blocking the ports the DV app needs? Do you have something that runs every XX minutes that is causing your phones RAM to get low and cause problems?
If you are on WIFI, port blocking and speed could be a factor.
I'm not saying that the above is what the problem is, I am just mentioning somethings that you might like to try and work out if they could be a factor in things not working. DV does work, we just need to work out why it might not be working in your case(s). If it was just down to the device and IOS, there would be hundreds of people here complaining it didn't work.
Fongo has decided that it is not going to offer dedicated support for the free products (and even some paid products), so it is left to a bit of self help and guiding in the, hopefully, right direction by people who may be able to help. The more you can do and try, the easier it might be someone to remember they had that and how they fixed it.

Re: Calls getting dropped
I have exactly the same problem. At 7 minutes 40 seconds, I can hear the caller but the caller can not hear me. It's very annoying. I am on an iPhone 4 with iOS 6 freshly installed.

Re: Calls getting dropped
That's unfortunate, because even though DV is "free", you can purchase credits for sms and non-free calls (which I did), so we (the clients) should have some kind of support.Jake wrote:Fongo has decided that it is not going to offer dedicated support for the free products (and even some paid products), so it is left to a bit of self help and guiding in the, hopefully, right direction by people who may be able to help. I run the Android app on 4.0.4 on a Motorola Atrix HD. I can receive calls (people can hear me and I can hear them). But when I make calls, both on wifi and data, I can hear people but people cannot hear me. This happens consistently. Same issue for leaving a personal greeting on voicemail: I can access voicemail but when I try to record a personal greeting, nothing is recorded (both built-in mic and speakerphone). It's a though the Android app cannot pick up my voice.
I have tried another account that I created for my wife on iOS (using the same wifi that I use for the Android app) and I can make calls without any problems (i.e. people can hear me!).
Somebody can help?
Thanks.

Re: Calls getting dropped
Re: 3g troubleshooting tips....Problem is that it was working more or less consistently 95% of the time for 6 wks or so on same set up. Now, 100% of the time I experience the problems mentioned....other party stops being able to hear me and ultimately call is dropped. This is independent of location and time of day. I can watch netflix on my iPad over my 3g which i assume uses less bandwidth than DV.
Fongo, I would happily pay for support. I appreciate the typical "search the forum" response one usually gets from support, but you are really constraining your customer base to those who have time and inclination. Natural in the early stages, just not useful for someone like me. Fongo needs to be 99% reliable for it to take the place of my mobile provider. I dont need a supplement to my current mobile provider that i can use on wifi to make some calls whenever it does work...I have Skype for that and the LD call rates (that ive looked at anyway) are better on it. DV becomes useful/interesting for me if it can deliver on its promise of replacing my mobile calling plan. I have a data only plan which costs me 35 a month for 5gb. Coupled with DV it promises unl calling + texting + 5gb data for $37. A steal in Canada. But it will cost me much much more than the equivalent with Rogers if It is unreliable.

Re: Calls getting dropped
I am having the same problem with Dell Voice dropping calls around the 7 or 8 minute mark. It is not a problem with connectivity, but rather a bug in the app itself, likely having something to do with iOS/phone compatibility. I've been using Dell Voice for a year on a 3GS running 5.0.1 and have never had a problem. This only started a couple weeks ago when I purchased a new phone (Iphone 4) that was on iOS 6.

Hi josh,
Are you using 3G/4G or Wi-Fi? Who is the service provider? If on Wi-Fi, what kind of router are you using?

Re: Calls getting dropped
I am having a similar issue but it is happening for inbound calls only. It appears to happen between the 6 and 8 minute mark, and I can continue to hear the person however they are unable to hear me and the call is the disconnected. I am able to have an outgoing call with a person without being affected.
It is not device or platform specific as I have had it happen to me using the same account but on different devices. I was using an iPod Touch 4th Generation running ios6 up until today when I switched to my Android Iconia Tab tablet and had the same issue happen.
Any resolution or assistance to solving this problem would be great.
