every time I receive a call from the PSTN my ht701 ata (set to g.729) switches to 711 codec even though its not in the preferred list of the config.
this only seems to happen when the call originates from the PSTN, or obviously an ata with a forced 711 codec which I have confirmed by testing.
I tested further by using a soft sip phone that would allow me to force g.729 in place of the ht701, it was unable to receive a call that originated from the PSTN using my fpl account (calls go straight to voice mail) ,as soon as I allowed 711 codec it worked.
So its either fall back to 711 or cant receive calls from PSTN this seems rather limiting.
Is there a way on FPL to receive calls from the PSTN using g.729 codec?
Is this happening because by default Fongo encodes all PSTN calls using 711 codec?
If so, what can I do to change the default Fongo encoding method for my account to g.729 or perhaps allow it to transcode before it arrives to my ata ?
the purpose is to save bandwidth as I find g.729 is sufficient quality for calls.
cant receive calls from the PSTN using g.729 codec

Re: cant receive calls from the PSTN using g.729 codec
Right now all the calls between Fongo and the end user are g711, with the exception of the mobile apps which are using a different codec.
I'll certainly pass along your request to see if in the future this can be changed to allow for the use of more codecs.

Does this go for FPL users as well? (I assume it would)FONGO_steve wrote:Right now all the calls between Fongo and the end user are g711, with the exception of the mobile apps which are using a different codec.

If so, you should probably remove this from the "SIP Settings" page in the portal:
"Use Preferred Codec: G711U or G729a"
