Hi,
I've had this issue for a few weeks if not a month now. Previously my home phone would work and not disconnect for several days. Now, I have noticed that the adapter does randomly connect and shows as registered to the network, however more often than not, it shows that registration has failed and I get no dial tone. However, the call forwarding works fine! (we have simultaneous ringing setup for our home phone #)
Nothing has changed about my home network configuration, I am using a Linksys SP-2102 with firmware 3.3.6 and an Asus RT-N16 flashed with Tomato firmware.
I have tested everything, tried setting up the adapter with a DMZ to ensure there were no blocked ports etc, but nothing has worked so far.
Does anyone have any suggestions I could try?

Re: Home Phone Frequent Disconnects
I too have issues with the line. I am using a Linksys SPA2102 and it has been working rock solid for the past year. Around Christmas in 2012 I observed the ATA was not trained (the last light of the three was off). Ever since that time, it is on and off at random times, mostly after making or receiving a call. The administration interface showing "registration failed". If I restart the ATA, it will register until the next time the line is used.
