SIP Password

Post by superpuppies »

Hi,

I'm new here, so please bear with me...

I've just installed a PAP2T, and it came with a 3.1.15(LS) firmware. Problem is when I configure and test - I get a dialtone :D , but an error message after dialing - female voice says "That password is not valid". I suspect it is the SIP password on the "Line 1" tab in the ATA. I tried my account password, but doubt that's the right one. I have put the "1" in front of my number in the User ID field.

Any suggestions on where I can locate this password, either in my online account information, or elsewhere, would be greatly appreciated.

It requires you purchasing a Config file for $50 which gives you a special sip password to use with your ata device

Just for the password 50$, isnt that too much. Keep in mind that the customers will be spending lot on the long distance.
the long distance rates are quite good as I dont see any hidden fees yet.

50 bucks allows you to use FPL's ATA service.. one time fee so no its not much.. i mean people pay monthly for phone services and i used to be with cogeco at 50 bucks a month.. if i used FPL a year ago instead of cogeco i could have saved myself over 500 bucks.. that's a big deal

Well the service is under development and not stable. the signon page for new connection doesnt work. and all the users are testers of the service.

Are you talking about Freephoneline? If so, I don't think that is correct. I have been using it for a long time and the sign up page worked for me. The service has been very stable and to be honest I can't fault it.

I'm not sure where you are getting your information - I doubt that the 80,000 + users would consider themselves 'testers'.

If I buy the config file, can I use the SIP password to set up a third party softphone? I am using a MAC and would like to use FPL on my laptop. Thanks

Freephoneline is beta testing a Mac client, which is nice.

If you do buy the sip settings, you can use any sip client you want, even clients that work on the Mac.

As for the reliability of freephoneline, it is not five 9's reliable, and I doubt it ever will be, because freephoneline does not have control over your Internet connection, your sip device or your router. Because of that, VOIP is not reliable. I consider it pretty good for a VOIP provider though, and the $50 is pretty cheap considering what you get.

Look at cell phones 10 years ago. you had to pay top dollar and you still ended up as a beta tester. I would have killed to have a service as reliable as freephoneline then! :) Such is technology, I suppose!
