In my case, this was caused by Firefox (and me). I had let Firefox (version 10.x on Linux) remember the configuration interface password for my Goldstream HT701 ATA. Later, when I changed a setting in the FXS PORT tab of my ATA, Firefox saw the AUTHENTICATE PASSWORD field and entered the ATA interface password, replacing the actual password.
To get it fixed, I sent an email to talkfreely@fongo.com to get a support ticket number and then PM'd Fongo_Support with the ticket number. They called me with the proper password.
SOLVED: one cause of message "That password is not valid"
