Just an update for others.
I started using FPL about 6 months ago on a trial basis. At the same time I kept my Rogers service. First I tried the softphone, then I quickly decided to get an ATA and pay $50.00 for the config docs.
I finally finished this off by completing an LOA to have my Rogers phone ported on January 26, 2010. The process was completed yesterday February 24, 2010.
It may be took a bit longer than I expected to port my phone, but in all other respect this service has met my needs (need Sudbury added, or need per min calling to Sudbury).
In summary, I recommend folks give FPL a try. I think this type of service is the future of the home phone. Thanks FPL.

Re: Porting from Rogers to FPL
To clarify for everyone else: If there is a disconnect order on your number (even it it is only your 30/60 days notice) the carrier will not release your number. Same goes if your Freephoneline.ca account, if the information on your LOA does not reflect the information on your current providers telephone bill; your carrier will reject the request for porting.
