Cannot transfer current number

Post by Kexkey »

Hi there,

I am trying to transfer my current phone number to FPL. Unfortunately, I keep getting the following error message:

Error: Unfortunately the number (xxx) xxx-xxxx is not available to be transferred to Freephoneline.
We apologize for the inconvinience.

I was wondering if anyone's been through this before? Is my current number "locked" with my current provider? What should I do about it?

Thanks!

What is the first 6 digits of your number? It could be that you are not in an area where they can port from.

The first 6 digits are 450654, I didn't know there were areas excluded from the CLEC porting thing. Do you have a list of such areas?

Thanks!

This is in Quebec I assume, just outside of Montreal.

Code: Select all

450 654 8050 Bell Canada In Service Le Gardeur
From what I have seen the coverage for Montreal is a little patchy. They only used to port numbers in where they had an actual exchange, but I did see a few posts from a Fongo Staff member that suggested they could port any number to one of their exchanges. This would however mean that although you may have a local number to someone they would be charged a long distance charge, if it was on an exchange that would be long distance to them.

Because I believe they don't cover much of that area, I would suggest you send a PM to Fongo Support (if he hasn't already seen this) and ask him directly. Now he has your first 6 numbers he should be able to say for sure.

It has been requested here a few times for a list of areas that can be ported, but there isn't one that I know of. The only way to check is by going through the process, which you did and unfortunately it told you it wasn't possible.

I would still follow up with Fongo Support though, they might be able to do something.

Thanks Jake for this interesting info! It's more complicated than it looked like. :)

I actually already sent PM to the Fongo team (a month ago) with my full number but did not get any answer. That's why I tried going public... and you were there!

Very disappointed not being able to port my number. I am using FPL as my home phone and am forwarding my current number to my FPL one to test the service, and now that I was ready to make the move, I can't keep my number. I don't know what I'll do.

Thank you Jake for your time!
