Incoming calls going straight to voicemail without single ri

Post by SanK »

Hi,

My incoming calls were coming in without problem and suddenly 1-2 days ago someone told us (when we called them) that they have been trying to call us but calls are going straight to voicemail without even ringing.

We have been with FPL for a few years, changed to Acanac in Jan 2013, had many issues in Jan & Feb but they seemed to have been sorted out after they did some server update. I have not changed any settings that should have caused the incoming calls to go straight to voicemail.

I have powered off the ATA adaptor (bought from FPL), waited 15 sec and powered on but still the problem persists. I enabled "Call Forwarding" all my calls to my cell phone and then disabled it but still the problem persists.

Can anyone help?

Is your router actually a Belkin F5D7230-4? We have to talk.

You have a NAT issue which is usually the fault of a sub par router, and sometimes the modem itself, in router mode, trying to act too smart by half. That you were able to do VOIP without issues for this long is amazing! Usually you can forward ports, disable the router part of the modem and the problem is solved. You really cannot do much with that Belkin.

Add to the mix a PAP2 ATA device, which is the one of the most intolerant SIP devices when mis configured. Nothing bad about the ATA itself, just that most other ATA devices would be able to get around this.

I would get rid of that Belkin F5D7230-4. the firmware is just too wonky, and it is impossible to upgrade.
Get a router that can be upgraded to DD-WRT, so you have a fall back, if the stock firmware is not up to standard.

The actual fix is to make sure RTP ports can be forwarded from the router to the ATA device. Your router has no idea where to send them anymore, and that is why you are not getting incoming calls. It is best to manually forward those ports to the ATA, so there is no confusion. Sadly, the Belkin F5D7230-4 does not actually honour those port forwards, because of the wonky firmware. I believe the default RTP ports on the PAP2 are from 16384 to 16482

Thanks for your quick response and insight into probable cause of the problem.

Yes, I have the Belkin router F5D7230-4 (connected to the Thomson DCM476 modem) on one side and Linksys PAP2T ATA Adaptor on the other. When I changed to Acanac in Jan and had tons of issues, a friend spent endless hours to help me get it working (I am not network savvy & had to Google 'NAT issue' also to find out what it means). I had to open the ports that FPL told me (5060, 5061 and 10,000 to 20,000) and also enable DMZ for the ATA adaptor. With these changes, should VOIP not continue to work properly (it has been for almost 2 months now after the changes)?

a) Is there a recommended router that works well with VOIP (and of course, does not cost a lot)?
b) What if I purchase a router, replace the Belkin one and then things still do not work out?
c) Can you help me in the interim to get my incoming calls working? It may take me 2-3 days to go and get a replacement, if there is no other long-term solution.

Thanks.

Here is something to try in the meantime, can you place that Belkin F5D7230-4 router into an access point which would disable nat routing altogether. When it's in access point your Belkin F5D7230-4 router could only be used for Wireless.

Thanks to bridonca i searched and I think we might of found something for you at DD-WRT http://www.dd-wrt.ca/wiki/index.php/Bel ... _and_Lower

Hi Funkytown, sorry I am not very familiar with the terminology used by you or this article (http://www.dd-wrt.ca/wiki/index.php/Bel ... _and_Lower). I am not sure what you mean by "placing the router into an access point". My connections are incoming cable > Thomson modem > Belkin router > Linksys ATA Adaptor. I am using Belkin router primarily for hard-wiring my PC so the wireless function is not that important.

I tried understanding the article (http://www.dd-wrt.ca/wiki/index.php/Bel ... _and_Lower) but was unable to. One thing - my router is Version 7000 so not sure if this is the correct article. Second, I tried finding what is the MB of my router but could not locate where this info is available. Without this info, I cannot even take the 1st step so I got stuck there. Also how do I find what is "flashing" and what is the maximum file size allowed on my Belkin router.

Searching, I found http://www.belkin.com/us/support-article?rnId=299, which gives firmware for various versions of Belkin F5D7230-4 Wireless G Router. Will installing the "Download version: 9.01.10, OS compatibility: Any, size: 1.00 MB" be of any use?

I also went to http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/support/router-database and typed in F5D7230-4 and in the table that appeared below, for Version 7000 I saw "not supported" under column titled "Supported". Upon clicking Version 7000, it took me to a page that read "RAM 4MB; Flash 1MB; Additional Information - To less flash memory to run dd-wrt". I guess I cannot run dd-wrt on this router. Correct?

Any other thoughts??

Hi there,

I know this sounds a little crazy, but before you go into the router settings- you might want to check if CFWD all and DND are not enabled on the line.

Please try to dial *73 and hang up and then *79 and hang up.

Try incoming calls after this and let me know.

Thanks,
SanK

Thanks a ton Fongo Support. My home phone is receiving incoming calls (though I called only once before sending this quick update). For benefit of others who may read this thread, could you please help us understand why would the calls get CFWD and DND enabled when no such thing has been done by a subscriber?

Hi there,

This happened to other users as well- see below:
http://forum.fongo.com/viewtopic.php?f= ... ail#p44674

I would assume at this point that someone in your household turn on one of the features by mistake- there were no such settings that can be enabled from back end.

Hi there,

Why are you trying to dial from your desktop app if you have a Linksys ATA?

Please let me know.

Hi,

I am not sure if you post in the correct section because this thread was for ATA users and it's not applicable to Desktop users.

I don't think that if someone is calling your number and you are logged in and with the desktop app open, the call goes directly to VM

Correct me if I am wrong.

I am use softphone on android, i checked this post. so I tried to dial *73 & *79 using desktop freephoneline, it was having direct to voicemail issue when asked question; now it does not have the issue when I test it again in home.

However, my softphone on android, such as csipsimple still has the issue even if I just close my desktop application (which can receive all just before it closed)

Please let me know if this section is not right for my case, which section of forum should I post.

thanks a lot for your support. Joe

Hi there,

If I understand this correctly, if someone calls your home phone(FPL) number that you have configured on the SPA2102, this goes immediately to VM without a single ring. This happens if you call the number from Fongo/FPL numbers or from Cell/Bell Landline.

Is this correct?

Please let me know.

My Fongo phone rings whenever someone calls from any phone (land/cell/bell/rogers/usa....) but immediately it goes to the voice mail. When I pick up the phone after it rings, can't hear anything from the other end & vice versa. I manually disabled CFWD & DND in my SPA2102 configuration page after it was suggested in the previous post but still it's the same.

Ok,

This is a little different. Perhaps you can verify your ports on the router against the IP of the spa2012.

I forgot to mention one thing. I'm able to make calls using the phone & both parties can hear.
SPA2102 SIP port is set to 5060.

Here's the setting in my Bell router for SPA2102:
Device details:
Name: SipuraSPA
Connection type: Ethernet
IP address: 192.168.1.65
IP address allocation: DHCP
IP address type: Private (NAT)
Hardware address: 00:xxxxxxxx
Status: On
Allowed applications Application type Protocol Port number(s) Public IP
Freephoneline1 - UDP 5060-5061 70.xxxxxxx
Freephoneline2 - UDP 6060-6061 70.xxxxxxx
Freephoneline3 - UDP 13000-13001 70.xxxxxxx

Hi there,

Freephoneline3 entry has wrong ports, SPA 2102 uses a different range.

Thanks,

I have removed Freephoneline3 from the list. Still the same problem. FYI, I added those settings just this morning. There was no such setting before & the phone was working just fine. I didn't change any settings in the adaptor or router recently that may cause any problem. One more thing. I tried to log into my fongo account but your system says "invalid email address"! What's going on?

The problem has been resolved, thanks to Fongo Tech Support. I had Stun enabled in the setting which had been working for almost a year. The problem was gone mainly after I disabled Stun. Also made the following additional changes afterwards as per the advice from tech which actually didn't have anything to do with the voice mail issue:

Keep alive interval set to 20 from 15
Preferred codec set to G711u from G729a
Register expiry to 3600 from 180
