Obviously something is amiss!

Post by brian »

Purchased unlock key & configured ATA as per instructions. All ports are open in router & ObiTalk is able to register my device just not freephoneline.

Incoming calls go directly to VM, out going calls drop within a minute or so.

Device system status shows SP1 service status as "Register Failed: No response from server 208.65.240.44"

When I checked call log on the website every incoming call states "Destination out of order". Check my online SIP Status & it states service "disconnected".

Using Obi100 ATA, connected directly to Thomson ST585v6 modem/router.

Either my settings are wrong or my account was never registered properly from the get go on freephoneline's end. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi there,

If you have a Thompson speedtouch modem, there might be an issue blocking port 5060.
Please see below:
http://forum.fongo.com/viewtopic.php?f= ... 696#p46696

Can you try that and let me know if line is working as expected.

If there are any issues, please send a PM to any of the mods and we will assist.

Thanks,
brian

That issue is not relevant since my ATA is plugged into the modem/router not a PC.

My ISP is also Teksavvy who doesn't block ports.

Just to rule out an issue with my Thomson ST585 modem/router, I did a network change. I plugged in my Thomson ST516 modem (routed mode) with latest firmware. Then attached a gigabit switch & plugged the ATA into its own port on the switch.

I get the same results as the other setup, calls to ATA device go straight to VM & failure to register. I must not be getting the settings correct or theres a problem with my account setup on the FPL end.

Any possibility I have a newer OBi100 software version that has different defaults (my ATAs Software Version 1.3.0 (Build: 2776). I followed the config guide for the OBi110 posted by T.O._Dave.

Theres actually various places to enter the same information, such as keepalive, one under Voice services under SP1 Service, the other in Service Providers under RTP. Nothing like making the config simple.

Hi there,

Please try to unbind sip protocol in your modem and let me know if OBI registers after.

One other test what u could do is to take the OBI to someone else's house with a different internet(cable internet) and see if the device registers.

Thanks,
brian

Problem solved for the moment, its late so nobody I can call to make sure everything is 100%. Will need to test for a few days & see if any other problems arise (fingers crossed).

It would appear the VOIP problems I was having are the direct result of the Thomsom modems built in Intrusion Detection feature that can't be disabled, accept by using the modem in bridged mode with DHCP disabled.

A few people have suggested I can disable Intrusion Protection using "Telnet :ids config state=disabled" or some such from the command prompt. Someone got this from a modem CLI reference manual. If that works it would only work until the modem was reset/powered off/on again.

I seriously doubt it will work since the firmware has no option coded into it to allow the Intrusion Detection feature to be disabled. What someone would need to do is modify the actual firmware & then update the device with that modified version of firmware.

Thats why ISP modems typically work fine with VOIP. ISPs use customized firmware in the modems they provide their customers with. I'm with Teksavvy & we buy our own modems with factory firmware.

Fongo support actually needs to check into the below posted support notice. An ISP can't unbind the SIP protocal in a modem. To do so would require as I already mentioned a rewrite of the firmware itself & then updating the device with that new version of firmware.

http://support.fongo.com/entries/229593 ... mson-modem

Anyway what I ended up doing is as follows.

First retired my Thomson ST585v6 4 port wireless router/modem for the moment. I'll update its firmware & keep as a backup. I then resurrected some other networking equipment & updated their firmware.

The new configuration.

1) Thomson ST516v6, I setup this device in bridged mode with DHCP disabled.

2) Linksys WRT54GL 4 port WLAN router I attached to the Thomson's ST516 single port.

3) Attached OBi100 ATA device to one of the WRT45GL ports. I didn't even open any ports, just plugged in the ATA device & it was working within 20-30 seconds.

4) Attach 4 port Gigabit switch to another WRT45GL port, I need all the Internet ports I can get.

Checked my OBi100 system status & it shows as registered for the first time. Made a couple out going calls, then called my ATA with my cell phone a couple times. Working good, theres a slight volume issue but I'll play with the settings & see what I can fix.

Cheers!
