Voice echos in calls

Whenever I place calls using the fongo app on the LG Nexus 4 (Android 4.2.2) the person I'm talking to hears their voice clearly echoing back to them. This happens even if the volume is way down. My wife has the same phone and has the same problem.

Just to note, I also have an old Samsung Galaxy Gio and I installed Fongo on that and there is no echo at all and call quality is great. The Nexus 4 has no echo when making calls directly through the carrier but it's very noticeable through Fongo.

Lower the volume on the nexus 4 and see what happens. the nexus 4 might be using echo cancellation on regular calls, but it might not be available with fongo. Most slabs do not make good phones sadly, and tricks like echo cancellation are needed.

My gio had a horrid speaker, too low a volume, so it worked fine!

See what happens when you use headphones with a mic, bet that will fix the problem

yeah I did try lowering the volume with no effect but I will try the headphone approach out of curiosity. Unfortunately even if it works it won't solve the problem because I can't really fumble around for a pair of headphones any time someone gives me a call

It seems to work fine when using the headphones that have a mic so definitely an issue with the way the Fongo app handles the echo suppression for the Nexus 4's mic/speaker. Hopefully they can update the app to correct the problem because I'd really like to use this app for voice calls

After the latest update the echoes seem to have gone away but now when I speak my voice sounds distorted to the other person like the gain is up too high on a microphone. Is there any way to adjust the level in the app?
