Port Number + Free Account?

Post by d4m1r »

Hi guys, I have a cell phone plan with Virgin Mobile currently and I have a question.....Could I port the number from Virgin Mobile to my free Fongo account? It's my own unlocked phone and the number was originally from Rogers before I ported it to Virgin Mobile. How can I check if its elligle and how much does it cost?

Basically, I'd like my current cell number to replace the random number assigned to my free Fongo account, is that possible? If it matters, I'd also be looking to add that Fongo texting package....That way (as long as on wifi), I could text and call and Canadian number even from abroad, correct?

To see if your number can be ported, check here http://support.fongo.com/entries/228992 ... o-network-
If you can port it, it will cost $25 + tax.

Your thinking is correct, your ported number will replace your assigned number. You will be able to use it around the world (dependent on a viable internet connection of course), for texting and calling as if you were still in Canada.

Thanks for the reply.

Now, I am not on a contract with Virgin so if I initiate the number port process, will my account/plan with them be automatically be closed? I mean when Fongo contacts them to port the number away from them because I only have the 1 anyway.

That would be ideal but if neccessary, I could call Virgin after the port successfully completes to close the account I guess...

They will probably just close your account. Even if you were on a contract they would deal with it as though you had called up and cancelled and bill you for the termination fees they load on.

Personally I would call up after and make sure it was closed once the number is ported to be safe, some will say it is not needed. Do not tell them before hand though, otherwise they will start to cancel your account which will block the port process.
