third party SIP app on android
Hi, I am using the fongo app for my android 4.0 (dual core, 1gb ram, thl w3+) phone (latest update) for almost a year now. I have some problems with voice quality but the bigger problem is the delay that occur when on 3g (data) connection. I got absolutly no problem when on a good WI-FI network. I've heard about people buying their credentials for 50$ then using their fongo account on third party android apps like SIPDROID or SIPGO. My question is does it worth the 50$ ? Will I get better quality / less delay when on 3G ???

I will let others speak for the quality over 3G when using a 3rd party app, some have said it is very good, especially when using something like CSIP - but on the flip side their have been people complaining about the quality, so I think you experience will vary and probably be personal to you.
Anyway, my main point in posting is to say you can no longer unlock your Fongo account, instead you have to create a new FreePhoneLine.ca account, then you can buy the unlock key. This will give you a new number which might factor into your decision and unfortunately your Fongo details won't work on FPL.

I already paid for porting my rogers number to fongo. Will I have to pay to port it again to fpl?

If you want to keep the same number, then yes. For all intent and purposes you have to think of the two companies as completely separate, even though though run on the same backend.
When you create a new account you will be given a new number, so you can test it out before moving your number over if you think it will be better for you.
It would be better for us a customers if we could use our details on each of the different brands of Fongo, but it's not how they want things setup.

Yeah, but 50$ just to test things out..... I'm not sure about this one. I also have an home phone account with fongo, maybe I could try with this account / credentials over an sip app

I went though a similar thing with another member the other day, who wanted to make sure that voip would work on his connection before paying the $50. You could do a similar thing but set it up on, say, your computer and android phone, rather than computer and ATA like he did.
Anyway, this was the thread, it uses a company called GetOnSip with is a fairly good way to test VoIP

Fongo does not offer the voip unlock key. They did initially but then stopped it. They sold the unlock key for $50 just like FPL, so there would have been no difference between the services.
If you want to use CSIP, you will need an FPL account and buy the unlock key.

Re: third party SIP app on android
There are other free SIP providers out there if you want to test VOIP over 3G. Callcentric and ippi come to mind. If you are satisfied with the voice quality of these providers on 3G, you should get the same sound quality from Freephoneline. In any case, my guess is you will probably be disappointed, VOIP over 3G is not a great experience. Lots of random voice dropouts and lag issues. The quality can be good at time, but is inconsistent.
I use Skype over a 3G connection, but only if I have to. It is just not very good.
Mind you, do not blame skype, Fongo, whatever for the lousy quality, it is your 3G internet connection that is faulty.
