Is it official information about about three trunks for paid users, confirmed on FPL site?
In my cellphone plan all traffic has to come to and from the same number, so FPL forwarding would not work,
since random source phone #.
In CallerID thread, i was told that FPL does not support overriding caller ID number, so the only way
I can use FPL is outbound calls, which makes me think rather than pay $50+tax for FPL,
pay for sipsourcy account and use GV everywhere in NA rather then FPL in selected Canadian cities.
I do not know if it is official, but 2 outgoing trunks are needed for call waiting to work. It is doubtful the FPL staff want to deal with any more support issues than they have to, so it would probably stay set up that way.

Are you on the Telus one number plan? Does that only cost you just 7 dollars, the 911 fee, plus tax? Or are there other charges?

I think paying $50 for a freephoneline.ca number is a good choice for a 1 number cell phone. Here is why.

If you had a few clues about asterisk, which sadly I do not, you could set the freephoneline number on asterisk. To call someone, you call your freephoneline number which is set up on asterisk, and when the asterisk server answers, you can dial the number you want to reach. If set up properly, Asterisk can route the call using the best VOIP provider for that number.

If someone calls your freephoneline number, Asterisk can be set up to route the call to your cell phone using your freephoneline.ca trunk, so your freephoneline number would be displayed on your cell phone's caller ID. So Telus would bill it as coming from the one number. The downsides are, Caller ID would be useless of course, and the pain of setting up asterisk is high.

Hi bridonca,

As my land line provider increased basic phone line rate, I'm in a process of switching to a new one. I am not using Telus yet at the moment, but I know some people on redflagdeals are using it with either voip.ms or FPL+ pbxes.org
I was hoping to use it with pbxes.org too, without setting up my own Asterisk server.
I guess with Telus 1# plan using Follow Me feature that preserves original CID is out of the question,
the setup on PBXes might be like this:

1) Classic extension for cell number
2) FPL trunk for in/out calls
3) incoming route on FPL trunk forwarded to classic extension (cell), using FPL trunk
(here where at least two channels capacity requirement comes in even for a single incoming call, 1 in + 1 out)
4) Outgoing route that covers forwarding calls to cell phone extension (using FPL trunk)
and my own outbound Canadian calls
5) Incoming route on FPL trunk and my cell phone CID filter set to Callthru mode with PIN
(for my outbound calls)

If somebody has experience with either FPL or PBXes.org please comment.
Best regards,
Sergo.

We have a cell phone with Telus (pay as you go) and we tack on the 1# calling feature so we get free in and out calls. We do have a PBX here though.

How it works is - Someone calls our FPL # that we give out as the cell # (this is different to our main FPL #) and the call is forwarded to the cell via the PBX. When we call in to our cell CPL # the PBX recognizes the # and send the call to a DISA script allowing us to dial the number we want to call.

As mentioned above, we loose the caller ID when people call in as all calls come from our FPL #. All out going calls show our cell FPL # which is a good thing. The other bad thing is people have to text to one # and call another. BUT, we get free in and out calls to our cell for 7$ a month, which is worth all the problems of setting it up (which wasn't that bad as I already had the PBX set up) and not having caller ID/different text #.

I'm not sure if there is going to be a free solution for this without setting up a PBX. For me it is fun to mess around with the PBX, so I don't see that as being a problem. I can understand if you don't want to go that route though.

Sergo / bridonca...

I don't know too much about PBXes.org because I've never used it, but for the most part, anything is possible for your incoming/outgoing calls, filter by Caller ID, etc. I don't see Freephoneline setting up a user-controlled anytime soon for reasons including that this is a free service (money is spent in other ways like expansion, features, etc vs. big system update/overhaul) and it's a consumer service, businesses could otherwise be tempted to go this route when they shouldn't (they have a business division, separate from this).

I'm getting lost who is asking for help on what, or if we're all supporting the OP: callopsitte_himself, so hopefully that answers everythign now? :)

Hi Jake
so you are using PBXes.org free account or run your own asterisk server?
How is the reliability of FPL on inbound calls?
I have a GV account with Canadian forwarding # also, and would rather use it for outbound calls, don't see how without getting sipsourcery account, which is hard to get.
Best regards,
Sergo.

I do have a pbxes free account, but just because. I have a FreeSwitch PBX here, I found it a bit more to my way of thinking than other types. Although I did start with the free version of 3CX but found it a bit limiting.

The reliability of FPL is faultless (most of the time) It has had a few bumps, but they have all been sorted out and were mainly due to hardware problems their end. I have two numbers with them as well as their DSL. I have set a friend up with a number, and my daughter has the DSL and phone with them. The call quality is the same as when I was with Bell, but now I don't get a bill every month, and I can call a lot more places without being charged for it.

My main reason for setting up a PBX is because I am from the UK, and so I have a lot of family back their. I have set up various numbers back there that are local to them and they come into my PBX as a trunk, so they call a local number and my house phones ring just as though I was next door to them. The ease of being able to do this for my mother is more than worth the learning curve for setting up the PBX, which wasn't all that bad. So now I have an old computer in my basement that deals with my phone calls. I don't need to think about anything, I just dial and it sorts out which company to send the call through, and where to send the call when someone calls in.

Hello,

Could anybody explain step by step the setting up PBXes account by using FPL to forward to Telus? I have one but I have no idea how to do it.

Thanks,
