Service not working - Friday March 30th

Post by mitwtim »

Is anyone else having issues tonight? I am experiencing the same symptoms we did back on Sunday March 18th, when the service was down - I do not hear a dial-tone. I have a Linksys PAP2T phone device and yes, I have power-cycled all my eqiupment. I can verify that although my internet is working just fine for most sites, the www.freephoneline.ca and www.fongo.com websites are hit and miss on whether the come up, or time out, when they do come up they have taken a very long time to do so. Next thing I checked was the forum site, but I understand it is on a different server. In any case my phone serice is not working. Before I spend a lot more time on my end trying to figure this out, is anyone else having problems?

Thats odd. Things seem normal out here in NL although the round trip time of ping seems a bit slow.

I'm in Markham, ON. And things are definitely not working here. Even the forum website is appearing slow at times now. There wasn't some notice that they were chaning servers and thus moving DNS settings or anything was there? And still no phone service. But, unlike the problem earlier this month I am able to call into my phone and leave myself a voicemail which does get deliered. But, I am unable to get my home phone to work - and as already stated the FPL, Fongo website are very slow, and the forum site is slower than normal. All other sites that I've tested (more than 30, are working very fast, like normal).

Things seem to be working fine where I am.

Funny how these problems spring up on Friday. This is the 3rd week in a row where something has happened on Friday.

I was working late and could not do any testing. Forum and website working fine.

DOS?? Odd. I would suggest PM Steve and get one of their techies to check the log for their website and see traffic volumes and possible DOS symptoms! :/

Is this a problem affecting Rogers users only perhaps? Fongo services still seem normal in NL .

My phone stopped working since last night. I'm in markham. Trie rebooting router and ATA but no help. ATA status said registration state is offline. Earlier it said "can't connect to login server. "

I'm just curious - did anyone on an ISP other than Rogers experience any connectivity issues?
So far everyone in this thread that experienced issues is on Rogers, where as Bell and Fongo DSL users seemed to say it was working.

Good observation! I can confirm that Rogers was having a problem in the Scarborough/Markham area during the weekend (I was there visiting). It took "forever" to load a web page...I gave up on my ATA registration...either to FPL or Whistlephone. I am now back in Brampton and all is well here (btw I wouldn't know if there was a problem in Brampton during the weekend).

Thanks for sharing! I have a sneaking suspicion that may be what caused the connectivity issue for the Rogers users. Our logs here indicate that everything was working perfectly all weekend on our side!

I was out most of the day after my original post. Yes, we are on Rogers. The odd thing is of the 30 websites I tried the only ones that were slow were the Fongo, FPL and then the Forum website also slowed down, but was not as slow to come up as the others. So, to me, even if it was Rogers issues they were restricted to problems with the Fongo and FPL sites and services. Does that help narrow things down?

Interesting our Internet service is Teksavvy Cable of course using Rogers to the POI. And I just experienced an outage and flakiness before 8pm until about 8:22 even though speed test and response times are great

I used the PC FPL client for a call a few minutes ago and everything worked normally and we talked for 18 min without any sort of iterruption. I have also used the DellVoice Android app today with no problem. I think the problems may be coming from circumstances where ATA are not properly configured (especially PAP2 and SPA2102 devices) so that when the internet fails briefly or a reregister fails due to network problems the ATA fails to recover correctly.

Very valid points, and, IMHO, an accurate read on what likely happened. Makes technical sense to me.
