Blackberry APP is useless!

Post by reez »

I just downloaded the Blackberry app to my Bold 9810 (Software is V7.1) and it is useless. It loaded fine. First call (with no reboot) to a cellphone - I heard the other side, they could not hear me. Did a reboot after checking on the forums. TELL PEOPLE A REBOOT IS NEEDED!!

Second call, (after reboot), they could hear me, I could not hear them. Now the touchscreen is way slower, moving between screens is much slower, I am seeing "hourglassing". Third call no sound in or out.

WHY WOULD DEFAULT SOUND BE EARPIECE! Why not use the internal speaker. I don't carry a bluetooth headset or earpiece with me and I don't want every call on LOUDSPEAKER!! Seems like you have been unable to access proper audio of the device.

Then tried Incoming calls - screen activates but no ring tone. So how would I know if anyone is calling me. Also no vibrate. And then..... On answering an incoming call, no audio in or out.

And then the piece de resistance!! I now have zero audio on my regular cellphone for calls in or out. I can make and receive calls but cannot hear anyone and they cannot hear me. How fast can I delete this?????......uh...done!

Seriously guys!!! This is a bad beta version 1. Did you do much quality control before releasing?

Hi reez,

Who is you cell service provider? the app does not affect the voice on regular calls, nor does it cut it off (we have done a lot of testing with that prior to releasing the app for BB)
Are you using Wi-Fi when it happens?
Is the BT turned on when you use it?
For ring notification, as it informs when you download the app, did you set up the ring tone through the options?

Telus is the provider. But suprise.....I had the network turned off and only using wifi for the tests. Only when turning the network back on did i discoiver that I now had no audio on regular cell network calls.
As it informs me through the download....??? No sir - there was no no notification that I saw. Just as there is NO notification that a reboot is necessary!
Nothing you have said in your email addresses the issues which basically render this app totally useless - intermittant audio; earpeice or speaker only; slowing down of all other bberry functions; hourglassing; etc etc.

Can you definitatly state that you have tested the app on the 9810 using 7.1 software.?

Did you try placing a call through DellVoice on the network, or just through your default call application?
If you are having issues calling through Telus, I would suggest calling them. As Mike stated, there is no way the application could affect your network voice... It doesn't even LOOK at the voice, only the data.

Dom, Mike....U should know that I am a power user of technology specifically the BBerry having been one of their original users when the BBerry was pager size. I come from the software industry specifically VOIP and have been responsible for the development and release of a number of products. So, given that background, do you honestly think I would believe that your app could have no unforeseen effect on the functioning of the device?! The mere fact that your app sits on the device means that it is using real estate and computing power and unless properly tested, conflicts between different processes are inevitable. Are you suggesting that it is totally impossible for your app to have conflicts with any other piece of software sitting on the device? I think not!

So instead of focusing on Telus which is merely the cell provider, tell me what is wrong with your app using wifi and why it is behaving in this fashion if indeed you performed all the testing you claim. The app should not be causing "hourglassing" - it does. Your app should not be causing a noticbale delay in the touch screen capabilities of the 9810 - it does. Your app should work - it doesn't.

So if you like, lets try to make this app work instead of discussing the carrier. I would love to use it but right now, in order or me to have full access to the funcionality of my phone, I had to delete it.

So again, have you specifically tested this app on a 9810 using ver 7.1 of the OS? There is no shame on saying "No". There are so many versions of the Bberry (part of the reason for the demise of the company) that I would NOT be surprised that an app created on one version doesn not behave the same way on another device version.

I can't agree more, OP. Fix the app, get it on App World, and please get working on Fongo for BlackBerry 10!

Reez: I have no background that comes close to yours WRT this. However, as a regular on the forums, I would just like to point out that your posts come across rather "confrontational" --- not complaining --- observing! :!:

That said, I can sense your frustration -- it is palpable. And you make several good points, really. It is just you are stabbing them across rather than sliding them on the table, if you know what I mean.

I have the same sort of reaction to a lot of things (check some of my posts), most to do with call routing, the POS PC softphone app and other issues.

I do not think that the staff here that has tried to help you is willfully turning a blind eye or being obtuse, just rather they are CS and not Software Development -- they are asking the questions and going thru the motions they need to.

I have a question: WRT the hourglassing and ts slowdown quoted above, did those both disappear when you removed the Fongo App?? Or had the Fongo app (or something else, or an interaction with the Fongo app) made some changes to settings that you then had to go back MANUALLY and re-adjust?

[Note: not a BB user, don't even own a smartphone!]. I am just asking for troubleshooting purposes.

I agree that there is a lack of Quality Control on a LOT of Fongo products (PC softphone too) ... not just that, but on some of the services as well.

You are ABSOLUTELY correct that there should be notification/warnings etc about some of the behaviours of things.

I hope you take my post for what I intended ... and I honestly sense your frustration, and share it to some extent (honestly, read my posts about LCA's, tariffs and the rest -- I am no expert, but I did a butt-load of research, and the Fongo-verison makes no sense to anything I have read/learned/acquired!).

I hope they can get it bugfixed and you can continue using it! :-)

All I can say is patch it fast. It is junk & I keep my expectations low at the same time so I'm just avoiding using the app at the moment.

TheHardy,

MY intention is not to be confrontational but to seriously engage with support to resolve what is clearly an issue with the app that apparently is not receiving the attention it should.

If you consider that Dom and Mike from Fongo are just CSR's, then they should should not be answering what are clearly technical questions - that should be left to someone from Software Development who can engage in a technical discussion.

Fongo claim extensive testing with blackberry - I have asked now 3 times for a positive response as to whether or not the app has been tested on the 9810 with ver 7 software. The silence is deafening!

To answer the question posed re hourglassing....Yes - once the app is removed, the hourglassing stops. :D

Frustration comes about when one installs an app that the community has been expecting with huge anticipation only to see the app fail dismallly, And if you peruse the forum you will see many others saying the same thing. I was told of this app with great excitement by others, have told others about it and now have to tell them all....uhhhh sorry, doesn't seem to work so please delete it. Not cool!

I am a huge fan of this type of technology that will help reduce my dependancy on the telco's and I would love the opportunity to figure out with Fongo how to make this work.

So, just answer the questions - has the app been tested on the 9810 with Ver 7 os?

I have similar problems with my BB 9810 OS 7.1.0.733. No voice, response very slowly for the device after testing dell voice, and also automatically reboot several times. I also reinstalled several times, but none of them got it work.

I have the same issue with my BB9780 (provider is Bell). Incoming calls - screen activates but no ring tone, all it does is vibrate. I have chosen the Sound Profile by clicking the Menu button --> Sound Profiles option while I'm in the Dell Voice app, and I have selected the "Normal" profile, which is what I use for my Bell mobile number. The app does not seem to be using this profile for incoming calls.

Can anyone help?

Thanks.

Mike & Dom (& Steve) answer, as I highly doubt that there are any of the software developers _ON/IN_ the forum! Likely, the question has been forwarded, but I think that might be a black-hole that it goes to ... so it is hard to fault those that are present and trying to answer.

Will you get an answer? Maybe ... timely? Highly unlikely. Will a s/w developer join the forum? Probably not, unless they can drag them in here and put toothpicks under their eyelids and bamboo under the finger nails!

Not sure what else I can say ....

Remember, I live with a buggy pc softphone app now for almost a year ... and the vm MWI platform issue is around as long too ... no fix ... no word from anyone that 'shit-hammered' any of that code together in the first place ... so don't hold your breath ... (unless you like Smurf Blue).
